Wait For His Counsel

Wait for His Counsel
Psalm 106:13
“They soon forgat His works: they waited not for His counsel.” This is said of the sin of God’s people in the wilderness. He had wonderfully redeemed them, and was prepared as wonderfully to supply their every need. But, when the time of need came, “they waited not for His counsel.”… They asked not what His plans might be. They simply thought the thoughts of their own heart, and tempted and provoked God by their unbelief.…
How this has been the sin of God’s people in all ages!… Our whole relation to God is ruled in this, that His will is to be done in us and by us as it is in heaven. He has promised to make known His will to us by His Spirit, the Guide into all truth. And our position is to be that of waiting for His counsel as the only guide of our thoughts and actions.… God always works according to the counsel of His will; the more that counsel of His will is sought and found and honoured, the more surely and mightily will God do His work for us and through us.
More stillness of soul to realise God’s presence; more consciousness of ignorance of what God’s great plans may be; more faith in the certainty that God has greater things to show us; that He Himself will be revealed in new glory; these must be the marks of … God’s saints if they would avoid the reproach, “They waited not for His Counsel.”
Andrew Murray, Waiting on God.

Psa 106:12 Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.
Psa 106:13 They soon forgot his works; they waited not for his counsel:
Psa 106:14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.
Psa 106:15 And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.
Psa 106:16 They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD.

They simply thought the thoughts of their own heart

Dear Brother, does this not sound like us, when we are not "walking in the Spirit - waiting to be led - moment by moment" ?
One moment praising God - next in derision, turmoil, confusion, anger and want ?
We are at Church on Sunday, feeling The Glory and then get in our cars to leave the Sanctuary and are as far from Christ with the traffic or with our families or those of the Church.

Comparing our lives now, to what will be - when tribulation will come - how much more should we see that our momentary problems cannot be compared to the Glory that shall be revealed ?

If we are 'waiting' on Him constantly - NOTHING will come upon us by surprise. He has promised us that either through His prophets or others or by His Spirit alone within us - nothing shall come to pass without His warning us. Before it shall come to pass, He will tell us. Even in the little things. This is true dear Brother - this is true. He is a friend that stays closer than a brother or any earthly father.
Andrew Murray's piece was a good choice for this day. Worth multiple reads - yes.
Such Peace to know that as long as our thoughts abide in His/Him and find HIM alone to be "enough", He will warn us of all things to come. This foreknowledge that He promises is our ballast and a wonderful reminder that He is Real! This is true dear Brother.

Hi HE_Reigns,

They simply thought the thoughts of their own heart

Oh, how we should know the danger and foolishness of thinking the thoughts of our own hearts. What wickedness dwells within our own lone selves.
But alas,

If we are 'waiting' on Him constantly - NOTHING will come upon us by surprise. He has promised us that either through His prophets or others or by His Spirit alone within us - nothing shall come to pass without His warning us. Before it shall come to pass, He will tell us. Even in the little things.

Is this not the peace that passeth all understanding, the peace the world cannot and will not understand.

Such Peace to know that as long as our thoughts abide in His/Him and find HIM alone to be "enough", He will warn us of all things to come. This foreknowledge that He promises is our ballast and a wonderful reminder that He is Real! This is true dear Brother.

Yes Dear Brother, this is true.

In His Love
