This recording by Rolfe Barnard is a crying, urgent, vital message for something "real" and the need for the true gospel to be preached and believed again. This is not ordinary message but a prophetic calling out to the true body of Christ. May a urgency and unsettling be put your spirit when you hear this important sermon from the past. If it was urgent in his days how much more in our days. The gospel has been furthered lost in our day. May God send a reviving of the true gospel again.

I have featured this sermon, not for to promote a "strict calvanistic" view of scripture but rather to show the need for some of the "calvanistic" traits back into the gospel. We need more of the sovereignty of God in salvation, the gospel is not weak, God is impotent at the hearts of men, helpless to save! rather God is drawing many to Himself by His grace. We need a recovery of the old authentic biblical gospel.

There needs to be preaching that shows men how helpless and sinful they are in their utmost lost and blind condition they are in right now with the wrath of God hanging over their heads.

Thank you brother...

Has anyone else had a chance to listen to this recording, its burden and desire is to see the biblical gospel preached again that bears fruit. We do have to admit that a Armenian gospel that is very man centered and takes away from a holy God is not a effective gospel. The sad truth in our day is when you take away the sovereignty of God in alot of ways you are trying to strip God of any awe and reverence that is due to Him. The gospel is huckstered on the street corner like a drug or sold on tv like a infomercial product.

Something has to change.

This sermon needs to be on broadcast every where!
God have mercy on us, the Old gospel needs to be recovered if revival shall come. When revival comes, mercy and truth shall be before God's face.
"Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face." (Psa 89:14)

When revival comes, mercy and truth shall be before the face of His people. "He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God." (Psa 98:3) "Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake." (Psa 115:1)

The revival rejoicing of Psalm 136 is centered on God. The gospel rejoicing of Psalm 136 is a gospel of Sovereign mercy. "To him who alone doeth great wonders: for his mercy endureth forever." (Psa 136:4)

Until the Old gospel of the Sovereign mercy and grace of God is recovered, any revival effort will remain man-centered. This man-centered gospel has been preached for far too long.

This new gospel that is being preach today fails to produce in it's hearers:
1. Deep reverence for God
2. Deep repentance toward God
3. Deep humility
4. A deep spirit of worship

In short, the gospel that is being preached today fails to produce Christians!

The gospel that is being preached today produces:
1. Lot's of converts
2. Lot's of church members
3. It seems to change some of the ways of men and woman, but it leaves men and women unchanged.
4. It gets men to quite some of their bad habits and keep others.

The gospel that is being preached today does not produce Christians!

Beginning at about minute 14:

"I believe the reason for the failure to turn out Christians, men and women who are really saved, lies in the character and the content of the gospel as it’s preached today.

I say to you in the first place, this gospel, this substitute gospel, this popular gospel that’s everywhere today. I say to you it fails to make men God-centered in their thoughts and God-fearing in their hearts because if we’d be honest brethren, that hasn’t been the aim of our preaching. We haven’t tried to make men God-centered in their thoughts, where He’s uppermost, and God-fearing in their hearts. We’ve just tried to make some more converts. And brother, anything that comes along that puts a damper on our making of converts, we’ll fight it until we’re blue in the face. We’re gonna have what we call results. Even if in the having of the results we’re not true to Christ and we’re not true to men and our converts do not give evidence of being saved.

My friend, one way of stating the difference between the gospel today and the gospel of our forefathers is to say that the gospel preached today is too exclusively concerned to be helpful to man. It’s concerned to bring peace to men, to bring comfort to men, to bring happiness to men, to bring satisfaction to men. And the gospel today is utterly too little concerned to bring glory to God."

My friend, one way of stating the difference between the gospel today and the gospel of our forefathers is to say that the gospel preached today is too exclusively concerned to be helpful to man. It’s concerned to bring peace to men, to bring comfort to men, to bring happiness to men, to bring satisfaction to men. And the gospel today is utterly too little concerned to bring glory to God.
