Just a question that popped into my head as I was reading some of the threads regarding Finney.
It's been discussed about what is required for revival to start:
- Being driven to prayer
- Reform in the midst of error
- Greater desire for holiness
- Passion in the midst of spiritual dryness
- Unity between congregations at the level of the Gospel
- Increased zeal for evangelism
With this in mind, what is it that causes revival to end? We hear the testimonies on SI of revival coming to local communities at various periods in history, yet when we look at those places today, there is no longer revival. In some cases, the latter end is indeed worse than the first.
If the holy Spirit is sovereign within revival, then why isn't revival an ongoing phenomena?
