I was aproached on Sunday night by a young man(teenager) who said he really liked the music(I help lead worship) and asked for the names of some people and songs to check out. I got his email address and sent him a message yesterday with some suggestions and I ended it with the question "where do you think you will go when you die?"
He responded with a long email about his life. Basically, his whole family has died from a myriad of things including murder, drug overdoses, stroke...He also revealed that he is gay. He said that he believes in Jesus(whatever that means) but he also believes he is going to hell because of the sin in his life. He asked me how he could be saved.
I am going to share the whole gospel with him later today, but I wanted to know if anyone has any advice about talking to a homosexual about sin and repentance. I know that God does not see him so much as a gay guy, but a dead guy. I want to be able to share Jesus with him in love, but also in truth. This is a hurting young man, and my heart is breaking for him. Does anyone have any experience witnessing to gay people? In a LOVING yet truthful way. I know he is going to hell, not just because he is gay(I know that this is a sin) but he is a liar, theft, murderer...in the eyes of the Lord. I don't want this to be about attacking his distorted sexuality. Any help would be appreciated

I just wanted to clarify-when I say he is a murderer, I mean in the way that Jesus talked about anger.

Brother,

If you are looking for a magic formula that will result in repentance of this person, forget it! There ain't no such thing.

Now lest you become discouraged, there is one empowering thing and ONLY one and that is the filling of the Holy Spirit in a willing, obedient heart that longs to serve God. That's it! All you have to do is listen very carefully and do not speak until the HS prompts you to do so. You just start talking and He will fill your mouth. However, the HS cannot use what ain't there either. So that should behoove us, you, to be filled-up, all fired-up ready to go at any moment. Remember this is God's battle and you are only one warrior in this battle. Success belongs to God. Always. If you worry about being successful, you are missing the mark, I am afraid. God often times uses many different people, incidents to bring about repentance in the life of a sinner. It is like climbing a latter: you get to the top by stepping on one rung at a time. And each rung is very important. Just be content to be one rung in this person's life. To be faithless in this mission of being content to be "one rung" is something we all need to be fearful of, IMHO.

Hope this helps.....God bless ya, brother.

PS: You asked for advice from those who have ministered to homos. In this sense I do not qualify, however, I have worked for 15 years in a CPC and we dealt with all kinds of sins known to man and imagination except for homos...obviously.

Show him the Holiness and Righteousness of God, the depravity of sin. That Gods wrath is on everyone who does not repent and believe. He needs to know God hates ALL sin. Read 1 Cor. 6:9-10, Titus 3:1-7 There are more verses that remind us how we used to live and how God will judge all the sins. Take him through the Ten Commandments, as the Apostle Paul, said if it wasn't for the Law, I wouldn't know my sin. He must know that he is not just a homosexual, but he is a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Don't get a confession of repentance just to get it. Let the Holy Spirit reveal his rebellion and remember its all the Holy Spirit, He will draw men.

Pray brother
let us know how it goes

Hi Ben,

Did you have time with the teenager to share the gospel?

How did the meeting go?

Thank you to those that have pm'd me and any that might be in prayer for this young man.
I gave him my phone number, he didn't call, so last night I sent him an email with the basic outline of the gospel(I pray that I did not overcomplicate the beautiful simplicity of the grace of God!) Now I will wait and pray. I believe he is coming to church again this Sunday, so I will probably have a chance to talk to him in person. Please pray for me that the unmeasurable love of Jesus will dwell richly in my heart so that in all things my actions and words will be completely humble and true. Praise God for His Holy Spirit.
