American religious history Reality-tv-style

PBS has a special on TV, will be on again tomorrow night at 8:00 called Colonial House, putting 21st century people into the 17th century America. It's very enlightening, they show the laws and rules of the land that was a part of early history shaping this nation, along with the culture and living conditions. The religious aspect of the show is very interesting, for those who want to know what some of our forefathers went through. Tomorrow looks like the punishments for breaking the laws (including breaking Sabbath, cursing) will be seen. It's so cool to learn so much from TV and internet!

Well, this show was a good try, but since it was coming from the perspective of "can 21st century people survive in 1628" as opposed to recreating 1628, the show doesn't show how religion was really practiced at that time, (it was a Puritan colony). But the people talk about their different perspectives about Christianity, some are Christian, some aren't, and it's interesting to find out what nonChristians say about being exposed to Christianity. The woman who grew up Catholic hates church, isn't that something. It's still a very interesting show, I think the web site (http://www.pbs.org/wnet/colonialhouse/)has a more in-depth stuff about people's beliefs, one girl is becoming open to Christian things, which is neat to see and pray for her. It's kind of disappointing that the Puritans forced everyone to observe the Sabbath- it was law, I wonder why they did that, maybe deep-rooted tradition with legalism thrown in I guess. Anyway, I liked this show, I hope PBS makes more like it. The last one, called Pioneer house, the ones who cheated were millionaires in real life, that shows his work ethic pretty openly. I like this reality show type stuff (the clean ones), it's interesting to learn about other people.

To be truthful...I was a little disapointed in the show. For one reason...the guy who admitted his homosexuality. See, I read somewhere once, perhaps on one of these threads that a Greek philospher once said that if you wanted to introduce a new concept or belief, or lifestyle into a resisting society, do it gradually. Introduce the concept a little at a time. I have seen the same thing happen with homosexuality. It was an outrage when Ellen Degeneres came out on her show, now it is commonplace to see homosexual lifestyles being celebrated, and in some cases legalized. So what disappointed me with this show is that it started out very realistic, but then this guy had to tell everyone he was gay...which in the last 1600s you just didn't do. They punished a man on the show for profanity, but didn't do a thing to this young man. The smallest punishment allowable was to remove his right to land (after serving his indentured servant's time.) They didn't even do that. So here is yet another show on TV condoning homosexuality. I was disturbed and a saddend to see this. Just my two cents. BTW the rest of the show was interesting.
