WASHINGTON (BP)--The Senate voted Sept. 27 to add homosexuals and transgendered individuals to the classes protected under hate crimes laws.
Supporters of the controversial measure gained its passage as an amendment to the Department of Defense authorization bill, purportedly to make it difficult for President Bush to veto. The White House, however, has promised a veto by the president, even if it is part of the Defense bill.

"I hope and pray that if this bill makes its way to the president's desk that he will fulfill his promise to veto it," said Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC).

The Senate passed the amendment, sponsored by Sen. Edward Kennedy, D.-Mass., with a voice vote. Passage was a foregone conclusion after senators approved a cloture motion to end debate on the amendment. The vote was 60-39, giving backers exactly the number ...

I ckecked out this link and here is a quote:

Current hate crimes law protects traits such as race, religion and national origin, but the bill's opponents say the new legislation would grant protection based on lifestyle. They also warn it would move federal law toward punishing thoughts and beliefs, since the motivation of a person charged with a hate crime would have to be evaluated.

I wonder whether this law can or will be applied to Muslims preaching hate for Christians? And if not, why?

Just thinking out loud here....if the answer is, where have you been, do you not know Christians are fair game for sport? Yes, I know all about this...and maybe what I have to say will not apply here...but who knows?

Anyhow, I well remember when the USA congress or the Supreme Court - do not rememmber which- ruled that schools in the south must desegregate. Remember these laws only applied to the south. So the southern states worked to comply. After some time these northern states discovered they have to do the same, although initially the pressure was on the south because the law said so. So, if the pressure is put on Christians to silence them about their opposition to perversion, when will the pressure come to silence Muslims' preaching of hate for Christians? Is this not law?

Reckon, the laws could ever again be applied egually to all offenders?

I remember some pastors saying if that bill passes in Canada it will pass in the US.
