I need some help from the saints

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Can you help me to learn where to look to research how and when the modern one hour church service began to become the standard for so many churches. I would also be interested in your prayerful, humble considerations regarding whether or not this tradition is profitable or unprofitable.

Sincerely seeking,

Makrothumia

One place to start would be studying Church history from the first 2 centuries, prior to the apsotacy under Constantine, when the "church" became a system rather then a living apastolic body governed by the Holy Spirit. From constantine things emerged into the roman catholic church. A great majority of todays church system (evangelical, protestant) is simply a mildly reformed version of the roman catholic system... only we call it baptist, or nazarene, etc...

I know this isn't a direct answer to your question, but through these major processes even the true believers went from meeting in the home and open air, being edified as a body, to going to a building on Sunday morning and listening to the pope, I mean their pastor, speak at them for an hour.

In Christ - Jim
