Seeking God

H
HisDaughter Oct 2, 2007

This morning I found myself seeking our merciful Savior and considering my relationship to Him. I have felt more distant to Him lately than I have in times past, and desire with all of my being to become more intimate with Him. I was encouraged and challenged by the following quotes which only reaffirmed in me a greater passion for God than I act upon every moment of every day.

May God grant me the steadfastness to grow nearer to Him while dying to myself and to my selfishness.

"There is tremendous relief in knowing that His love to me is utterly realistic based at every point on prior knowledge of the worst about me, so that no discovery can now disillusion Him about me"
~J.I. Packer~

"Both Scripture and experience teach that it is we, not God, who determine the degree of intimacy with Him that we enjoy. We are at this moment as close to God as we really choose to be"
~J Oswald Sanders~

What a blessing to remember that God could never love me more than He already does, and that there is nothing that I could ever say or do which would make Him love me more than He already does. He knew my greatest mistakes and sins before I was formed, and though they are detestable to Him, He loves me despite those things. God has sought me out, and called me His own. If I am far away from Him, it is only because I am the one who has moved. God's steadfast love endures forever, and His love for me is unfailing. I pray that I might find myself more on my knees, more in Him presence, and humbled before Him day by day.

I thank the Lord for His mercies, for I do not deserve the great love that He has poured out for me at Calvary, and every day of my life. I am overjoyed at the reality of the love that I can never repay, nor deserve. I pray that I might draw nearer to God in every way; fighting the good fight, and endeavoring to serve my Lord with everything in me.

Yield to Him, dear sister. Relish in His love. Rest in His embrace. Rejoice in His Spirit. You have every spiritual blessing in Christ! He's given you the grace to write such a wonderful thing! Trust in Him and He will complete His work in you, beyond what you can ever ask or imagine, because His Spirit intercedes for you. Your post gives me much joy in the Lord, for He must release you from bondage--that is, enable you to will it--before you can write such a thing. Let's all praise Him!

Carried on mighty waters,

Oh Sister, what a precious prayer this is. I read it and then prayed it for myself as well. I too desire to seek Him and know Him more. He has promised that if we seek, we will find. If we call, He will answer. As I type this, the pattern appears: if we, then He. Oh, I pray that we would be faithful to seek after Him with all our hearts sister. Sometimes it seems as though our prayers fall onto the floor. Sometimes it seems that He is a million miles away. But He is watching and listening and testing our hearts to see how great our desire for Him really is. Let us not give up this holy pursuit.
