The Greatest Commandments

sermonindex Oct 7, 2007

I love how Jesus condensed all the commandments into these two commandments:

Mark 12:28-31
28And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

29And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

30And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

31And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

If these are the two greatest commandments than this must be holiness!

I was just thinking what does it mean to love Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and than I was thinking what does it mean not to. The only verse I could think of was this one:

James 1:8
8A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

"ALL OF OUR WAYS" meaning if we are double minded that would divide not only our mind but our heart, soul and strength, so it all begins in the mind.

I guess what it boils down to is we have to figure out what might have our mind other than God. We probably wouldn't know something else had our mind unless we really sat down and thought about it. Maybe we should be asking ourselves what has our mind today.
