That's very interesting. It's amazing and sad how much clothing styles have changed.

I suggest you may want to google "costume in history" for some info. I did and pulled up a few sites....

This summer my DH and I visted Williamsburg, VA. It was interesting to note the costumes the reenactors wore. The ladies all wore what I could call a modified, fancy Amish headcovering. I took a picture of one so I could study it better later on. The rest of their constume reflected the current fashions of the time which was mostly very fancy. As a seamstress, I had to wonder at the time and effort it took to construct a garment like that: they had no sewing machines, no automatic washers or dryers, no polyesters. How could a garment like that endure the stress of life that comes with living? or were these just the ones worn for dress ocassions? If so, did the working class wear something more substantial? And I suspect this was the case which is something to keep in mind when you study the history of fashion/costume on the web.

Judging by what ancient art I have seen, in general, probably similar.

By Paul and Peter's writing, it seems that the secular people were often marked by much jewelry, complex hairstyles, and expensive clothing - not at all different from today in substance.

I believe the book of Jeremiah describes a harlot as having her thighs exposed?

From the pics I have seen, the way the popular fashions were is similar to what you see today - on top. Very immodest on the high end fashion scene.

Human nature has not changed any, has it?
