Hi there, just read this. Ive heard of the "Emergent Church" but not NOOMA or Robb Bell.
From the description, the video seemed to be completely man-centred. Why do we want to know what or who we are? We need to know who HE is, and then who we are will fall into place without us worrying about it!
It sounds similar to a book I was given in error (mistaken order). I didn't read it but returned it as soon as possible. What the back cover said [i]in praise of it

Rob Bell is a very dangerous character. He seems to come off very sweet and innocent, and I am sure he is a very nice guy. However he compromises the truth like nobody's business, and combines Kundalini(a type of yoga)thought, new age language, and Christianity.
His newest book is entitled "Sex god" and is nothing more than a new age type of Christianity that does not seem to lift Christ up, or His death for sin.
Bell is also on a tour across the nation which is called "the gods are not angry tour".
I have read his books as many people I know are being sucked into this, and in order to show them the errors in light of Scripture.
I usually will not go into discounting what another writes/speaks unless I get the "yuck" sensing or it is completely off kilter. I also do not want or wish to slander someone based on a personal feeling, but I think that there is a danger in what Mr. Bell is preaching.
I recieved this feeling reading one of Mr. Bell's books. Throughout the book, I was literally cringing with some of the examples and things he was saying. But I was thinking that maybe I was being a little too close minded, so I continued to read the entire book.
Needless to say that by the end of the book, I was thoroughly disgusted with what I just read. There is an area in the book when Mr. Bell was explaining that there was a disagreement in the church between the "elders". This female elder was diagreing with the rest of the elders and said (paraphrasing) "I just believe what the Bible says". Mr. Bell went on to say that this was a bad comment because it is her interpretation of the Bible.
Mr. Bell was also hinting that true revelation cannot come through reading the Bible, but only through your relationship with God, because everyone has his/her own specific interpretation of the Word.
Get that yuck feeling yet?
