Divorce

Is it sin for a woman to remarry after she receives her certificate of divorce?

Its my understanding that divorce is only lawful if there is adultery involved. In this case there wasn't. But the husband left her and she tried to make it work.

I'm trying hard to figure this out. Id appreciate some biblical insight. thanks :)

The question needs to be asked, Why did Paul feel it necessary to address this situation to the church at Corinth? What was happening socially at this time in Corinth. Find that and you will begin to understand the social climate of this subject.

Telestai, Because of the contention that this subject has in the present and historical church, it would be far better for you to seek His face on this matter, therby avoiding the condemnation that will come your way.
Remember, condemnation is not God's way of speaking to us. There are many arguements for both sides of interpretation, but the correct understanding does not involve condemnation.
May God bless this thread and will bring enlightment, understanding and decernment to those who reads it.
Be bless

great advice to seek God's face. If any man lacks wisdom... God is faithful to open the scriptures with prayer and study, meditation, and an open mind and open heart. We can't come into this with preconceived or denominational ideas and expect God to agree with us. We found out that divorce before conversion was made right with Jesus when we became new creatures in Christ, and that indeed all thing become new. May the Lord bless your journey. Barry

1 Cor 7:6 I say this as a concession, not as a command. 7I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.
8Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am. 9But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

10To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.

NOTICE IN VERSE 6 IT IS PAULS OPINION BUT IN VERSE 10 IT IS A COMMAND FROM GOD IF SHE SEPERATES SHE HAS 2 CHOICES TO STAY SINGLE OR RECONCILE TO HER HUSBAND ALSO SEE Romans 7:1 she is bound by the law until death. Also your yes must be yes and you’re no no. and the wedding vow was until death do us part. You cannot break the wedding covnent only violate it. Marriage is Death do us part. Period. Find the book what the bible really says about divorce and remarriage by Joseph Webb. Salvation can be lost from remarriage.

Desertion is also legal ground for divorce.

Not sure of scripture for it, though.

If Jesus was compassionate to the woman taken in adultery, may He also be compassionate to the woman who is deserted, seeing we all are made for marriage, (except He call us to be single)?

I'd really like to believe that, but where do you find this in Scripture?

Because there was divorce happening. I believe God allows divorce (because of hardness of heart), but not remarriage.

Nowhr2hide,

Here are several sermons that I'd really encourage you to listen to. Not to further my view, but because I believe these people teach biblically on this topic.

Wow, lawl this is a rather contentious issue isn't it. It is interesting to see the differing views held to the age old arguement of Grace vs Law. I know which one i would choose to live by. :-P :-P

Maybe we should lift this woman up in prayer for God to show her what He would like her to do. Remember guys, we only know a little, God is Omniscient.

Is it sin for a woman to remarry after she receives her certificate of divorce? Its my understanding that divorce is only lawful if there is adultery involved. In this case there wasn't. But the husband left her and she tried to make it work.

Rom. 7:2For (A)the married woman is bound by law to her husband while he is living; but if her husband dies, she is released from the law concerning the husband.

3So then, if while her husband is living she is joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress though she is joined to another man.

Lk. 16:16"(A)The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John; since that time (B)the gospel of the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.

17"(C)But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the Law to fail.

18"(D)Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery.

The only thing that dissolves a covenant marriage(a marriage joined by God) is death. To remarry before that time is to enter into adultery. To take a divorced person as one's own, is to join themself with another's spouse.

This isn't an issue of law vs grace. This is an issue of obedience vs sin. Grace was never meant to be used so we can enter into sinful relationships, nor to continue in relationships deemed by the Lord Jesus as sinful. If Jesus calls a relationship adultery (a remarriage), we can no nothing in honesty, but agree with Him.

This is basic theology and is the gospel of Jesus Christ as I understand it in it's simplest form. We were all once in sin and far from God, at emnity. Upon conversion old things passed away, behold things are made new, He promised to deliver us from the power of sin, and to remember our sins that we repented of no more, they are now as far from us as the east is from the west, and though my sins were as scarlet, He has made me as white as snow.

This is simply before Christ and after Christ. If I can't trust God for forgiveness for repented of sins, then what is the gospel for.

Because unconverted people do sin, should a missionary require everyone in the village that has been involved in divorce and remarriage to separate before they can be converted? This I don't see in scripture (new testament). Jokingly I told one of my accusers that I would be better off to kill my wifes ex-husband and repent of that sin and they agreed because that would release us per Romans 7. Romans 7 doesn't seem to be addressing marriage as much as being loosed from the law to serve in the newness of spirit and not in the oldness of the letter (vs.6)

Divorce and remarriage AFTER conversion is a completely different issue.

I just noticed that my previous post wasn't clear about the divorce and remarrige were both pre- conversion and we have both put it under the Blood once and for all. I believe it was covered and removed with the rest of my many sins I came to Jesus with. Thanks and many blessings Barry

I am divorced and remarried. I was the one who committed the unfaithful act. Am I doomed to hell? What should I do now? In my present marriage, we have an 11 yr old son who loves his father. I love his father. How can my sinful life be unravelled? It's like a piece of knitting that's full of mistakes. Shall I unravel the entire piece and start over? No. I can't start over. I'm forbidden to start over. Shall I kill myself? No. I'm forbidden to kill myself? Shall I simply accept the fact that I'm forever lost from God? Oh!!!!!No!!!!!All who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved, right? Shall I leave my husband and go live in a cave and wait there to die and go to hell? Shall I leave my child with his father, but leave him motherless?

I tell you what people, I feel like I'm running from the devil. Everybody has an opinion and they don't mind giving it, do they? What's a person supposed to do in this world we're living in? There's terror on every side. This world has spun out of control. It's darn near impossible to make it trying to live in it. One is constantly facing peril of all kinds, ie, failing health, demands upon us financially that keep us continually dangling by a thread, the constant running of the sands of the hour glass as we watch our lives flashing before our eyes knowing that, soon, we will face a Holy God, and have we done the necessary thing to pass through His gauntlet?

What is wrong with you people? Seriously!!!! I'm being serious!!! I'm dying here and there's nothing I can do to save myself!!! Nothing!!! If the mercy of God isn't enough to save me then I can kiss my ass goodbye and I don't mean that fecetiously.

Please, for the love of God, get your heads out of your derrier. People are dying here!!!! Don't shoot them as they are falling into the grave.

I tell you, I'm at the end of my rope. How does anyone expect people to live? I could do what this one says, but there will be another one over here who says it's wrong.

When I was a young girl I used to have a repeating dream. I was walking down a dark road with trash piled up on either side. It was a wall of wire and junk that made it impossible to do anything except walk straight ahead down this dark road. I had that dream over and over again. That's how I feel in life. I must keep walking straight ahead because there's a wall of junk on both sides of me. If I listen to men, my journey will come to a screeching halt.

I seek God every day in a desperate, humble way, knowing that I am a dreadful sinner who cannot save myself. I never feel completely saved. I just feel completely desperate for the mercy of God upon a dying sinner who calls upon his name. Perhaps, this day, I shall be with Him in Paradise or perhaps, this day, I shall be the loudest voice in hell saying, "God is great and greatly to be praised!". Sincerely, Dian.

What about divorce and remarriage after a false conversion? I've had people tell me I was saved when I was 10 yrs old and walked down to the altar and cried and said the sinners prayer with that preacher and was baptized, but that didn't change my life. I was supposedly saved when I committed adultery. Now what?

I honestly feel that I didn't get truly converted until after I married the man I'm married to now. I was desperately miserable right after we married. I was suicidal. I did feel there was no hope for me. I even said with my own mouth, "my life feels like a capped nuclear disaster." I had to call upon the mercy of God to live in the fallen state of my life, but isn't that the shape that every single person is in? All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, right? There (where I was), but for the grace of God, go you.

If the gospel can't deliver me, I won't be delivered. It's just that simple. I'm a sinner in need of a Savior. How loud do you want me to say it? I'M A SINNER IN NEED OF A SAVIOR!!!! Dian.

Now what?
Well having been around here as long as you have been, one thing I can say to you is that I believe there is no generic answer. For anyone to be able to give council in these situations without having walked with you and anyone for that matter in this situation is doing so blindly.

Truth is truth, but its the relationships that you have in your fellowship that need to be the sounding board for such things.
