Hi this is my frist time posting here but i read the thread on divorce and had to start this new one because the thread on divorce is so big now and doesnt answer my heart question and I need to know what to do.

I was married and professed to be saved like my ex wife did and we both cheated on each other. We don't have children so it didnt harm anyone but us but i did it first and did it over and over again and kept doing it and cheated on her so many times and then we divorced and now I am married again and repented of doing those things to my ex wife and I truly love the Lord.

I repented from all of my sin many years ago and have not gone on to do the evil things I did when I was first married and still regret how I lived and was a hypocrite when I was going to church and sleeping with several women behind my ex wife's back.

I wish I could turn time back and not have done those things.

I failed my family and God and still feel so bad after all of these years.

I have a second wife now and after reading the divorce thread I am not sure if I am feeling guilty from the Lord for being remarried or if it is from man. I am confused so bad.

Am I going to hell because I am remarried?

I feel like I have no hope after reading most of the thread on divorce.it is like God doesnt want me until I abadon my second wife.

If this is true I will abdandon my family.

Please help me.

If David and Bathsheba doesn't apply here, than I don't know what else does.

Read his whole story again if it will help.

Psalm 51 as you know, came out of that.

From Bathsheba came Solomon. 1Kings 1:11

No one here condones adultry in the slightest - but we all should know His Forgiveness when we've blown it royally and have turned competely.

If you are loving your present wife and have repented of your adultry - The Word says that you are forgiven and should not leave your second wife.

Amen. I could only pray that no one else answers this thread or at least nothing contrary to what has been said, but I fear that won't happen. God forbid that a family be torn apart.

I will be praying for your brother.

That's my understanding as well.Fornication as far as I have studied and believe me I have includes all sexual immorality. Pray and get the peace of God in your heart. Allow God to speak to you. Any christian can fall into condemnation if you do not know the heart of God on a matter.

I will pray that God speaks to you and gives you assurance in your situation.

Excerpt from John Piper's paper on divorce and remarriage.

Divorce and Remarriage by John Piper

8. Deuteronomy 24:1-4 does not legislate grounds for divorce but teaches that the "one-flesh" relationship established by marriage is not obliterated by divorce or even by remarriage.

Deuteronomy 24:1-4: When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens that she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out from his house, 2 and she leaves his house and goes and becomes another man's wife, 3 and if the latter husband turns against her and writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband dies who took her to be his wife, 4 then her former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her again to be his wife, since she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the LORD, and you shall not bring sin on the land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance.

8.1 The remarkable thing about these four verses is that, while divorce is taken for granted, nevertheless the woman who is divorced becomes "defiled" by her remarriage (verse 4). It may well be that when the Pharisees asked Jesus if divorce was legitimate he based his negative answer not only on God's intention expressed in Genesis 1:27 and 2:24, but also on the implication of Deuteronomy 24:4 that remarriage after divorce defiles a person. In other words, there were ample clues in the Mosaic law that the divorce concession was on the basis of the hardness of man's heart and really did not make divorce and remarriage legitimate.

8.2 The prohibition of a wife returning to her first husband even after her second husband dies (because it is an abomination) suggests very strongly that today no second marriage should be broken up in order to restore a first one (for Heth and Wenham's explanation of this see Jesus and Divorce, page 110).

---------

Those who are already remarried:

1. Should acknowledge that the choice to remarry and the act of entering a second marriage was sin, and confess it as such and seek forgiveness

2. Should not attempt to return to the first partner after entering a second union (see 8.2 above)

3. Should not separate and live as single people thinking that this would result in less sin because all their sexual relations are acts of adultery. The Bible does not give prescriptions for this particular case, but it does treat second marriages as having significant standing in God's eyes. That is, there were promises made and there has been a union formed. It should not have been formed, but it was. It is not to be taken lightly. Promises are to be kept, and the union is to be sanctified to God. While not the ideal state, staying in a second marriage is God's will for a couple and their ongoing relations should not be looked on as adulterous.

God bless you brother, I see your heart and would like to help you get through this.

first off when we say the sinners prayer and get baptized are we saved?
Answer: if Christ saves us we are: but remember people who live in rebellion are not saved, they are going to hell.
you were married and professed to be a christian.
but you werent living like a christian, therefore you were only a professing christian not one by your actions.
But now you see the error of your ways and truly Repented. now based on your attitude I see a regenerated heart who is willing to do anything to please God... Look at Abraham having to give up Isaac.
Is God asking you to give up your new family?
No!
God wants an obedient heart, which it seems you have.
If lets say you want to commit adultery again, and divorce again, and keep up a unholy life style, then Christ has not done anything in you to save you.
but now you're saved brother and know now what it means to live for him.

If you read in 1st Timmothy chapter 3. you will see the requirements for deacons.
A man of but one wife.
one in the greek is "mia" (first, only)
It implies that people who are now believers may have been divorced and remarried but are now excluded from leadership roles, not as a punnishment but a standard for others to follow.
Brother, your saved now, because you fear God and obey his word.
Read John chapters 14 and 15.
He loves you and wants you to be the best Godly father, husband, you can possibly be.
God bless you. :-)

Brother

I have not words to say that will make things right, but I know that we have a God who is long suffering and full of compassion. God knows what we are going to do before we even do it, God knew the sin you committed before you did it. This doesn't excuse it, but should give you comfort to know that God is not surprised when we rebel, much more than that, it should cause us to be conscience of God daily to honor Him and Love Him. WE know that rebellion is a serious to God, His word says it is like witchcraft and idolatry. You can't take back what happened you can only run to the Cross. there is forgiveness and mercy, cry out to Him, His had is never to short were He can't save you. Remember we have an Advocate that is Interceding for us. God Bless you brother and know that you are not alone, you have come to the right place; Their are many intercessors that will pound on the door of heaven for you.

In Christ
Mike

I saw the cross of Jesus, when burdened with my sin;
I sought the cross of Jesus, to give me peace within;
I brought my soul to Jesus, He cleansed it in His blood;
And in the cross of Jesus I found my peace with God.

I love the cross of Jesus, it tells me what I am—
A vile and guilty creature, saved only through the Lamb;
No righteousness nor merit, no beauty can I plead;
Yet in the cross I glory, my title there I read.

I trust the cross of Jesus, in every trying hour,
My sure and certain refuge, my never failing tower;
In every fear and conflict, I more than conqueror am;
Living, I’m safe, or dying, through Christ, the risen Lamb.

Safe in the cross of Jesus! There let my weary heart
Still rest in peace unshaken, till with Him, ne’er to part;
And then in strains of glory I’ll sing His wondrous power,
Where sin can never enter, and death is known no more.

Amen. I could only pray that no one else answers this thread or at least nothing contrary to what has been said, but I fear that won't happen. God forbid that a family be torn apart.

I could only pray that the dear brother whos heart is burdened could hear both sides of an important issue and not be consoled by soothing voices of chrsitians who have been born and raised in babylon.

This is a very serious issue. Read the other thread through again and listen to no mans opinion (not even mine) as they are not qualified to answer you. knock and HE will answer you.

In the case of remarriage after adultery I know many on fire believers who view it different ways. Beware though, many here believe it ok to remain remarried even if no adultery was involved, despite the fact that their words clearly and directly contradict those of Jesus. This is a result of the strong dellusion this country and its church system are under.

Seek the Lord with all of your heart on this important issue and dont accept the sweet sounds of babylonian soothsayers. I am sorry if some who posted on this thread are offended by that. I do not aim it at any one person. And I do not know the answer for you either.. there is danger on both sides.

Brother, it is a very difficult matter to discuss this publicly here. There are any number of threads and postings you can find by doing a simple search, many of them with some very good reasoning from some experienced saints.

As Jim mentioned, there are many different views and it is the Lord you must seek ultimately. Take in all the Godly counsel of old and recognize where you are now, bring it all to consideration and prayer, the Lord is faithful to speak to your heart.

Jim, your Babylonian insinuations are not helpful nor warranted.

This thread will be locked, I hope it can be understood why.

Jim said

Hi Jim,

I've discussed this topic in several threads now, and never yet come upon a believer who believes in remarriage apart from the terms Jesus laid down.

What is confusing about Cindy's stance is that she doesn't accept Jesus terms under which remarriage is permitted.

With respect to the brother who opened this thread, it is true there may have been other solutions, but, had he lived under the Old Covenant, he should have been stoned for his breaking of wedlock, thus leaving his wife free to remarry.

Many of us believe the death of Christ which He foresaw, enabled Him to tell the woman taken in adultery (John 8) that He didn't condemn her. And, He left it there... because there is still a great deal of discretion between spouses, as to how they will deal with the situation in which they find themselves.

The key factor to note is that Jesus did state clearly that the breaking of wedlock was ground for divorce, and His comments about adultery therefore are directed at those who divorce without the reason of sexual sin to vindicate them. Jesus was addressing the hypocrisy of men who wanted to put away their wife for another woman, but to do it decently without actually breaking wedlock with their current wife first. He knew their hearts, and out-manoeuvred them with His pronouncement. It is, like His manipulation of the question about tribute (Matt 22:17), one of the most striking replies He gave to the Pharisees on anything.

And if you think I'm overstating the matter of hypocrisy, then look at Matthew's version of what He said to the Pharisees about their show of making the outside of the cup clean.

Matthew 23:25
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye make clean the outside of the cup and the plate, and within they are full of rapine and incontinence.

Young doesn't try to mitigate what Jesus said in any way (like other translators have done). It is the same Greek root as Paul uses in 1 Cor 7:5.

Sorry, I've drifted. In the end, I believe a person knows within themselves if they have peace with God, and God is able to bring to one's attention, anything more He requires of us, above faith...
