Be aware that the text by Robert Short is illustrated by Schultz rather than either of these being one long comic strip.
The text is a serious discussion about God, the meaning and the ocmmunication of the gospel. In those days - the late 60s - the Jesus Revolution and recent outpourings of the Holy Spirit had stirred up a fairly radical re-examination of churchianity.
Christians had suffered from a rise in atheism following WW2 as well as strong intellectual scepticism from so-called believers, such that in one place (for instance) there was one lone Presbyterian preaching 'you must be born again' (which was regarded as an extreme holiness concept by most in that denomination), while another of the same denomination and town could stand in his pulpit and say 'God is dead' (with impunity) - [u]which is an abominable lie[/u].
Therefore, when Schultz (a baptist), whose Peanuts cartoons and books were already very popular, was published discussing Christianity (effectively) [i]and[/i] was willing to be seen as sympathetic to it, it definitely made some people think more deeply on spiritual matters.
I confess I didn't really understand the nuances of the discussion and it's a long time since I had those books in my library... so, please don't read this post as an outright recommendation of how anyone should spend their money.
There are, nevertheless, some very insightful cartoons which will encourage a heart to believe God is good, and show that He is well able to supply us through His riches in Christ Jesus.
