I am wondering if someone could point me to a sermon. I am constantly struggling with telling non believers the difference between the old covenant and the new covenant. Can someone give me a simple illustration that I can teach and use, or a sermon that I can reference? Thanks you everyone.

Just writing a quick reply, others on here I know will be able to elaborate much better than I can but I'll give one pointer:
It's important to notice that the Old Testament is not the Old Covenant; rather, it [i]contains
A basic difference is that the Old Covenant is weak in that it cannot produce in a sinner the righteousness required for life. It became a burden that Christ carried for us all. Paul called the Ten Commandments a ministry of condemnation in 2Corinthians ch.3. The New Covenant brings the life and freedom from sin that the Old Covenant testifies about.

Mr GW North specialised in preaching and teaching about the New Covenant, and he approached it from many different angles. His work is archived with the Lanark Christian Fellowship (Scotland) (There is a small number of his sermons on SI.) and there is more than one catelogue to browse. This seems a good place to start. Hey hulsey thanks for helping me clear that up a bit I really like the "cannot produce in a sinner the righteousness required for life" I have another question. How can I describe the difference between a "saved or believer" sinner and not saved sinner. I know that is a big question. I know we have the holy spirit and are free from sin but its hard to convince a sinner what that peace is like and that faith is like. I know Paul talks about how everything is possible but not benificial and I have a hard time explaining that to a nonbeliever becasue they can just say "well you and I are the same because I work the same way, some things are not bennificial like murduring or stealing but I don't need a bible to tell me that" And I try to argue that they do or they need God and I don't feel like I am getting anywhere. he has some wonderful teaching on this difference, i think in 75% of his sermons you will find he almost always mention a difference between old and new, just my observations.

I've been blessed recently listening to the messages by David Hocking at his site www.davidhocking.com
Also, just read through Hebrews several times, particularly chapters 9 and 10.
By the way, the word "propitiation" not only means the atoning sacrifice, but also the mercy seat itself, on the lid of the Ark of the Covenant, where the yearly sacrifice was offered for the sins of the people. So Jesus is the high priest who offers Himself as the sacrifice at the mercy seat, which is Himself. And the temple which He entered was heaven itself, therefore the veil that was torn was not only the earthly tabernacle veil, but the heavenly one where, by the blood of Christ, we now have access through faith, to come before God and make our requests and praise Him!!!! Kinda cool!
Because the blood of Christ is continually on Himself, the mercy seat, it pays the price for sins for all time, because the mercy seat (Himself) is always sprinkled with His perfect blood.
If anyone has more to add, i've been blessed in this recently, i'm sure there is more to be blessed with though...

This Sermon is Excellent. Soo good. I always seem to forget to forgive others and that is such a good reminder. It is so hard sometimes to not Judge, I know I am wrong and I know that I am full of sinful thoughts but man the whole forgiving thing is so much easier said then done. As for the info in Hebrews I am going to go home and read. I alwasy for get hebrews. Thanks hmmhmm and thanks for the welcome to the site this is so great to have a place like this. God Bless.
