SermonIndex.net Needs and Upgrades

sermonindex Nov 29, 2007

Saints,

Many people ask me what are the needs for sermonindex from time to time, so I thought it would be profitable to put out a quick list of some of the needs so people know how to pray and give if they feel led.

1. Server Upgrade - right now the server where the sermons are hosted is FULL (120 gigs) so there is need to upgrade the server again, and I am hoping to get a solution in place that is over a few servers to help the bandwidth be balanced. This is simply a cost issue to get done. So right now I have not been adding new resources due to having no space to do so.

2. Computer Upgrade - right now I am working from a year old MACBOOK computer which is the only computer that is "alive" at this point. There is a good need to have a newer computer to do audio and video editing and other tasks.

3. Nonprofit - sermonindex is going to be heading towards non-profit status and I need help with any LAWYERS that would like to volunteer during this time or any other people that are experienced in this process.

Currently those are the 3 biggest needs and upgrades with sermonindex, but there are a plehora of smaller needs also. I appreciate the prayers of Gods people and the support by those that feel led.

As sermonindex turns non-profit there will be a better avenue for giving and setting up better more robust scenarios to handle the sermon media, etc.

How do you feel about the people on SI helping out finacially, you know like sending donations to help aid with any finacial upgrades for the site. I know I wouldn't mind this, as I am tremendously BLESSED everyday by SI.

I second the question. I know that many of us would gladly donate and some of those who had the privilege of attending the Conference (those who came with me) would gladly contribute to this most worthy cause.

Saints,

I have just made these needs known so people can pray about this and if they felt led contribute. There are alot of big steps ahead for sermonindex and I know that where the Lord guides He will provide and I am confident in that. There is a donation link on the left hand menu bar where you can send a donation. I am praying to take steps to get sermonindex.net non-profit so there can be tax deductions in giving. Also that will provide a more accountable system. I do believe God wants to expand the reach of sermonindex more and I do ask that the saints of God continue to pray for this ministry and pray for myself.

Hi Greg,

If your in New Brunswick for several months and I send a cheque to your address in Victoria, will that cheque be cashed or will it be cashed when you arrive back home in the Spring? I am asking because if that be the case, I would just send you a cheque in the Spring, if not, I can do it online which is my second preference.

Thanks

I have a brother administering the mail and cheques in victoria, so you can go ahead and send it and it will arrive to myself. He is forwarding important mail to me every month.

One brother asked me about the non-profit organization steps and what that entails. I will keep everyone posted on the timeline for this and steps and help needed to ensure sermonindex becomes a organization. This will help further the work of sermonindex by putting in place a strong staff of people who will prayerfully help guide the vision of this ministry.

Saints,

please keep praying for solutions to see these points come to pass for sermonindex.

Brothers and Sisters,

I have found a great solution to get more room for media, it should cost just abit more then what I am paying right now to host the sermons but its scalability is very large. I am going to slowly transist the sermons onto this server and add new ones to this server.

thank you for your support and prayers during these upgrades.

The new hosting solution is working very well. I have 1.4 gigs up and working so far. I will need to transit the 120 gigs slowly in the background and change over once that is done, but right now I have the freedom to upload new content easily.

Please keep praying for myself and that this solution will work and I can get all the content over.

I am using the Amazon S3 technology.

Praise the Lord, brother. I'm glad to hear of this solution.

Will keep praying and believing Him to meet the rest of the needs you shared.

Saints,

I appreciate your prayers as I continue to backup sermonindex. I am transferring "all" the media content from the media server to the new "amazon s3" account. It will be a few day process and I hope it works seamlessly without errors and any downtime with the media sermon server.

please pray. thank God for the wisdom to be able to figure out a solution.

Saints,

I have uploaded right now 98.50 gigs to the "amazon s3" hosting account. At this rate in 2 more days God willing all the sermons should be hosted with amazon and I should be able to switch all the download links to this new server.

The cost might be abit higher but it is a "much" more secure environment with faster connections and more stable connections. It really doesn't matter how many people are downloading at once the connection should stay somewhat the same because of the Amazon.com Infrastructure.

Keep praying this transition runs smoothly and all other needs are met.

Saints,

Currently there is 108.49 gigs uploaded and hopefully by sometime later tommorow "all" of the sermons will be backed up to this amazon server.

The costs might increase slightly due to this solution but I am trusting this is the best move and God will supply all the needs. It is a very safe environment for the sermons and very robust as the site grows.

Keep praying.

Saints,

Currently there is 137.77 gigs uploaded. Keep praying. It has worked quite seamlessly so far. Praise God. This is a major upgrade and very necessary, thank you for your prayers and support.

2. Computer Upgrade - right now I am working from a year old MACBOOK computer which is the only computer that is "alive" at this point. There is a good need to have a newer computer to do audio and video editing and other tasks.

Also another praise report is something provided me with a new iMac computer! Thank God for what he puts on the hearts of the saints for the working of the ministry.

Currently there are 146 gigs moved over which is ALL the content. I am changing permissions on the content and then I should be able to switch it over to the new server from sermonindex.net

I am excited about this change, it is going to prove much more reliable and secure. And there is more potential to grow and expand the archive.

I am not fully sure on how much more it will cost monthly, but I do appreciate the support that God lays on the saints hearts in this matter.
