True Worship or Pure Hymns

Can anybody suggest some true worship music on CD, or either some pure version of the old Hymns-you know, not the modernized ones.

Really, I am just looking for some good ole pure worship and hymn music. Any links would be appreciated to as well.

Because most of today's "worship" in the music christian industry (industry!?), (unknowingly why is called worship to the Holy One of Israel?), is worship of flesh and the man, or if you want, it is worship of Baal (but in the name of God, I don't say Jesus, because it is very rare and offending the word Jesus today, you can hear "I worship you" and who is "you" is a good question.

That's why, we needed great spiritual discernment (I think as never before), to distinguish between true worship and flesh worship. There is dangerous instead thinking that we worship the Holy One, to please our fleshly desires. Surely, I have been guilty of that.

You won't find such recordings in franchised Christian music and bookstores, or in the Christian sections in secular booktores or music stores. Such music is usually sung privately in small, God-fearing fellowships, with voices and instrumentalists that are normally despised, even by the Christian music marketing standard. No producer would take the risk of producing such music for retail purposes.

Well, just to let you in on the "purest" worship music I think I have ever experienced: I once heard a song sung by a mentally-retarded boy at a summer camp I had to take our youth to one year. As this boy went up to the platform with his paralyzed arm, I could see the other kids begin to snicker and whisper to each other. I saw these "Christian" kids mocking his disabilities, the same kids that would get up and express their worship to God through rock and roll garbage and mechanical Christian top-40 hits like "I Can Only Imagine" and other examples of stupidity. Not one of them befriended this boy during the whole (three day) camp; people were ashamed to be around him. He ate his meals alone and the other kids didn't include him for basketball or tetherball.

Well, one evening, he got up all by himself and sang a song (in between all the rock-and-roll performances). I forget the name, or who did the backround music, all I remember is this despised retarded boy getting up before 50 kids and being secretly rejected by them. I tell you - what he sang was one of the the "truest" things I've ever heard. He sang off key, forgot more than half the lyrics, and what he did manage to remember was so garbled due to the severity of his mental retardation that it wasn't recognizable. I knew the kids were making fun of his voice - scoffing - and as I saw this, the tears began to stream down my face.

I suddenly began to think of the ways of God. The same God that only had to send [i]one angel[/i] to destroy 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in a single night, and this same infinitely powerful God of all creation and wisdom choosing to accept this weak and despised and ugly offering over all the other offerings of accomplished musicianship by the other kids.

What I heard from this boy was one of the purest things I'd ever heard, and the Holy Spirit testified His approval to my spirit as I sat and listened. I groaned in spirit, knowing I'd probably never hear something like this again. It made me hate our pretty streamlined praise and worship sessions on Sunday morning, our lame and impotent contemporary songs we sing so perfunctorily week after week.

Well, what can one say about this sort of thing? Who can grasp the heart of God, who can be broken to the point where God can reveal such hidden riches? It's neither the world's way, nor the church's way. I gained more from hearing that poor, despised boy sing to God than anything else, and God broke me down to tears as others laughed.

So, where can you find such music? You can't. Such is the nature of God's choicest treasures; they're spontaneous and by grace He reveals them to you [i]in His way and time[/i] if you endeavor to live before Him with clean hands and a pure heart. In the meantime, I would encourage you to make music with God on the lyre of your own heart. Still your soul, confess all your sins, surrender this day and look to the blood in utter weakness for total cleansing, take a hymnbook, shut yourself in your closet and sing to Him with a pure heart. You'll gradually find you don't need to seek outside sources to stimulate passion when all you need already abides within you: the instrument to peform upon and the audience of One to hear.

Yes, brother. The ways of God are so contrary to the ways of man. Man hears a Mozart symphony and ascribes "perfection" and "sublimity" to it; the average churchgoer hears a Christmas cantata or Handel's "Messiah" sung by a wonderful group of skilled singers, and cries "Yes! Hallelujah!" in soulish rapture. But God's ways are different. That which is highly esteemed and asthetically pleasing and virtuostically incomparable in the eyes of man is more often than not rejected by God, for God looks at the heart - the deep, eternal breath of God which transcends the the mere temporal and manipulative soul of man - and there He scrutinizes the pure motive for each creative impulse.

I can tell you this with all my heart: the things I have been most impacted by and spoken to from God have always been the ugly and dejected things that in the eyes of soul are displeasing, an embarassment, weak, unskilled, laughable. The most abysmal voices to a carnal ear have sounded most glorious to my spirit ear, and, conversely, the great renditions of the awe-inspiring masterpieces composed by the ingenuity of man have rung most dead to my spirit ears.

I find this true both in church and in the concert halls of the world. We need to live and walk and have our being and worship in [i]spirit[/i] and in truth, and not in [i]soul[/i] and truth. Marching to the indiscriminate drum of "soul" will invariably take us off course and cloud our eyes with carnal haze; abiding, however, with careful and guarded discipline in the Holy Spirit will condition and quicken our "spirits" to hear what God hears, and to see how God sees. And by feeding on the Word of God daily, we rightly learn how to divide between spirit and soul.
