Have you ever woke up from a sinful dream? Wether it be lust, murder, anger, etc.?
This might sound strange but do we have to repent? I wonder if we dream what we let ourselves take in during the day. I wonder if we get to act out how we really feel during the night.
I wonder what Jesus dreamt about?!?!
Good question brother. My opinion for what its worth is that we can do much to prevent sin from rearing its ugly head in our dreams.
I agree with you that if we are doing all we can during the day when we are awake and alert to shut the door to sin and its influences and to fill our minds with all that is godly and pure, then i think it is unlikely that we will sin in our dreams. On the other hand if we are not guarding our hearts during the day we most certainly will sin in our dreams when perhaps we have even less control over what occupies our brain space.
The above is certainly true from my personal experience. Although having said all that, perhaps due to old memories from sinful experiences in the past or because of the remaining corruption that lies within our hearts we will occasionally sin in our dreams- perhaps- better not to. I believe that if we have sinned in our dreams and we are aware of it when we awake then we should say sorry to God and repent, because ultimately it is only another indicator of the sinfulness of our hearts (even though we could claim we didnt have control over our dreams because we were a sleep).
I find it does no harm after awaking being consious of sinning against the Lord during the night in some form, to come humbly before Him as a sinner who has sinned, mourning that my heart is still so prone to sin (as the very dreams of that night have shown me). I find that i am humbled on account of sin on my part and God is glorfied on account of being my Saviour who has justly paid for my sins in His dear Son, and in being a God who is patient with His children, loving us despite all our imperfections, seeing us in Christ as spotless and radiant! Hallelujah!
P.S. One more wonderful thought in answer to your last question.
We can be sure that Jesus Christ never sinned in His dreams, not even coming close!!! And we through faith in Him can be assured that His perfect life and record (including His perfect, holy thought and 'dream life') is counted as mine, and credited to my account!!! And even better, my sins, oh how many, and how black, including sins of thought and in dreams He has paid for on the cross of calvary and they have been nailed to His cross and i bear them no more!!! What a Saviour!!! What a gospel!!!
What did Jesus dream about? I dont know!!! But we can be assured that His dreams were the most holy, perfect, God honouring, innocent dreams that any man did ever dream, and in Christ His dreams and His rightsoueness are mine!!!

I come with a background of dreams my whole life long.
Let me first say that the number one issue is, is it you committing the sin, or are you just witnessing it?
There is a major difference between the two, and simply witnessing it is not necessarily sinful, I know from experience that the enemy attacks the mind of the believer to destroy his sleep, and simply to torment them.
When I was a child, we had no tv, we were not allowed to read scary books, or have scary toys, or see anything sinful, because my parents wanted to raise us without those influences.
However, in spite of them doing all of that, me and some of my brothers and sisters experienced grossly perverse dreams, whether it was sexual things, rape, and the like, or extreme violence and murder, things we had never seen before in our whole lives. This was the attack against us of the enemy. We were not in any way sinning by having those dreams.
But when you personally are participating in the sinful acts, then it comes into a whole other realm, and that is that the hidden desires in your heart are being made manifest in your dreams.
You do need to repent of that and seek God.
In the case of the other, sometimes God will allow extremely graphic dreams from the enemy to come to you so that you will have the keys in prayer, to counter what the enemy is doing in your town, or city, or state.
Just be careful to be in prayer over these things, the enemy's attempt in dreams can be many times to distract you, and weary you from the things of God.
I know they say everyone dreams, but we dont always remember them. I sleep like a rock, and maybe wake up remember a dream about 3 times a year, and they are usually such odd ball dreams I cant make sense of them.
I would say that the best weapon against sinful dreams is to keep your mind on Christ when you're awake. We do this by being in the Word, praying w/out ceasing, listening to Christian music... and staying away from sinful influences like TV, etc.
But if you should have a sinful dream I do not think this is a sin of itself. I dont think God counts that as a sin... but it would be very important to immediately begin to pray and refill your mind and soul with the good things of God, and do not dwell on the dream.

I've dealt with this some. It seems to help me to either play some music or reading of the scriptures when I go to bed. On my CD player it has a setting where it will go off in, say, 2 hours.
This scripture comes to mind.
2Cr 10:5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
I don't see a dream much different than a temptation or a thought that would run across your mind. I don't think you can obey the above scripture and sin at the same time.
When a bad dream comes (or any thought that's wrong for that matter) and you recognize it (which will be when you wake up), get it out.
