Alms

R

The world today serves the god of riches, Mammon. People compete on game shows in trying to give the correct price of merchandise. They invest in the commodity, stock and real estate markets betting on the increase or decrease in the prices. Christians believe there is a heaven and do alms. We must become better doers of Alms and not better students of worldly religions and genealogies.

Matt 6v19, 'Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.

vs20, 'but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

vs21, 'For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

There are non-Christians who give alms, nothing to do with God at all, but because they feel sorry for the plight of the starving, homeless etc.

But it is not their salvation.

As it is, as Christians, we are to use our finances for God's glory.

Let's do so.

God bless.

The world today serves the god of riches, Mammon

So do the majority of professing Christians in America.

2 Timothy 3:
1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

The poor widow in the Word of God went away justified before God because she gave out of her poverty. The pharisees gave more currency wise than her, but gave it out of there abundance of riches. Followers of Jesus Christ who live in the west and make thousands of dollars a year should give alot more than 10%. Jesus did not say give ten percent, He commanded us to love one another as He loved us. It is not loving to pay an expensive TV bill and spend alot of money on things that are not needed for ones self as millions are starving and multitudes need us to share the love of Jesus with them. We must spend our money more wisely, and sow abundantly for Christs' sake if we want to be true disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. For it is more blessed to give than to receive. Jesus told the disciples not even to take an extra tunik or a money bag with them before He sent them out. Who are we to think God does not care when we spend our money continually on earthly posessions that we do not need as so many others are so greatly suffering? When He seperates the goats from the sheep, and the goats are cast into the lake of fire it is because they refused to feed Jesus, they refused to clothe Jesus, etc. Because the goats rejected Gods' command to love one another, and didn't truely repent therefore there everlasting portion is the lake of fire which shall burn for ever and ever. I do not want to be one of those people. Let us fear God and lay all that we have down at the feet of Jesus and present ourselves as a living sacrifice for His glory.

jarona-

Thank your for the frankness of your words. may we all evaluate our finances against the radical call of Jesus as opposed to what the so called church teaches today.

I wanted to bump this up and add links to the two most shocking sermons I have ever heard on finances called:

Sheep and Goats - Missionary David Kirkwood - appx 30 minutes

Christs Call to Follow - KP Yohannen, Gospel for Asia - appx 45 minutes

I pray that my (western) friends who are so interested in revival would spend as much time soul searching and praying over this matter as they do talking about predestination and water baptism. Theology talk is cheap, as it doesn't cost us. Actually, radically, and irrivocably forsaking our lives for the King and His Kingdom, now that is a far different story.

Matthew 6: niv

22"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
