John Wesley

I would like to start studying the life and works of John Wesley more thoroughly. But where to begin?Recommended biographies?Also, in doing some searches it appears that his complete works are available for around $100 but I can't really tell for sure. I find this hard to believe since one volume of his works normally costs around $50 and there's something over 25 volumes that I have seen. What gives? here's the isbn number of the set I am talking about: 0801011116 Please help.

That complete works set is a seven volume set and the lowest price available at the moment is $78 new (buy.com) and $72.07 used (half.com). The list price on that set is $300.As for biographies of John Wesley, there are many (as you know) and I am probably not the best person on here to recommend the best.

Christian Book Distributors' price is actually higher than Buy.com's because of shipping (which I added in before posting). I rarely use them because, although they cut the "retail price" and are good savings (as Ktrek pointed out), they are usually about $20 more than I can get elsewhere. Thanks again guys. here's something I find very interesting. CBD says the retail price is $400 and buy.com lists it as $120. Something's strange there. $400 seems way off to me. Any insight? Also, is ALL of Wesley's known work included in this set? Or is it only the most comprehensive set available? Is it worth the price?And I am still hoping someone might be able to recommend a good biography of Wesley. I wonder if Ravenhill ever mentioned one?

LarsYes, Skevington Wood's is a great book. It puts John Wesley into the context of the wider revival but does not minimise his contribution; and excellent balance.In the UK it was published by Paternoster Press as part of their series on Church History.

I have the same addiction, but I love the search facilities of electronic documents.
