Is goal setting for the New Year Christian?

With the New Year coming, everyone turns to thoughts of what they could have done differently the previous year. Should a Christian set goals for the New Year and is there a way to set them in a way that is pleasing to God? Do any of you set goals or is goal setting against the will of God? If you do set goals, how do determine which ones are pleasing to God other than looking in the Word?
