sermonindex Dec 18, 2007

I sought the Lord at midnight. ‘Lord, show me what will become of this nation.’ I was pulled out of my bed before the rising of the sun, with this word burning like an oven.

‘America was born a slave to one master. In her youth she was set free. In time she became lofty and thought she could rule the world. Now she is a slave of many, and they will cut her down.

America was a warrior, arrayed in fleshly armor. Her armor began to rust severely, so she sought to find the cause. She did not look at the fault in her material, but found that oxygen was the cause of all rust. So she cut off the supply. Now she is on the brink of death.

America was the beloved pet of her master, a fierce dog set to guard his house. She bit the hand that fed her, and now he must put her down.’

Then this Scripture flooded my mind, along with many others:

“Hear this now, O foolish people,
Without understanding,
Who have eyes and see not,
And who have ears and hear not:
Do you not fear Me?’ says the LORD.

“Will you not tremble at My presence,
Who have placed the sand as the bound of the sea,
By a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass beyond it?
And though its waves toss to and fro,
Yet they cannot prevail;
Though they roar, yet they cannot pass over it.
But this people has a defiant and rebellious heart;
They have revolted and departed.
They do not say in their heart,
“Let us now fear the LORD our God,
Who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season.
He reserves for us the appointed weeks of the harvest.”
Your iniquities have turned these things away,
And your sins have withheld good from you.
‘For among My people are found wicked men;
They lie in wait as one who sets snares;
They set a trap;
They catch men.
As a cage is full of birds,
So their houses are full of deceit.
Therefore they have become great and grown rich.
They have grown fat, they are sleek;
Yes, they surpass the deeds of the wicked;
They do not plead the cause,
The cause of the fatherless;
Yet they prosper,
And the right of the needy they do not defend.

Shall I not punish them for these things?’ says the LORD.
‘Shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?’
“An astonishing and horrible thing
Has been committed in the land:
The prophets prophesy falsely,
And the priests rule by their own power;
And My people love to have it so.
But what will you do in the end?”

(Jeremiah 5:21-31)

I did not want to share this word. I fear what it will cost me. I have no confidence in myself. What do I know? Men will curse me. I know this people. Most of them despise prophecy. They will look for fault in the messenger, and they will not have to look far. I am not ready.

His word makes my stomach bitter, but it is sweet as honey in my mouth. His command calls out to my soul: “He who has My word, let him speak My word faithfully!”

I counted the cost, even to the death. Love compels me. I must obey.

Andrew Murray writes of an ancient king of a great kingdom. He decided he would go and overtake this much smaller kingdom. He sent a delegation of war to that king. As they stood before this small king, he called one of his soldiers to him; “Stab thyself“, he commanded, and the soldier did so and died. He called a second, with the same command, and he did likewise. He called a third, and the soldier obeyed him without reservation. The king said to the delegation, “I have three thousand such men. Let your king come!”

If there is any hope for this nation, it is not in the Whitehouse! It is not in the church house! It is not in the courthouse! It is the true men and women of God, who are willing to count themselves dead already, who are willing to obey God at His every word no matter the cost! It is in men like Noah, a preacher of righteousness who obeyed all that the Lord commanded him. It is in true Christ-like people who are faithful to the death. It is in men who have counted ALL THINGS LOST for the Excellence of the Knowledge of HIM!

I believe it is God’s constraining Spirit that has kept this nation standing to this day. I do not know if the there can be another stay of execution. Jonah did not go with an ultimatum to the people of Nineveh. “Yet forty days and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” This was the prophets call. And they were gripped with the fear of God. “So the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them. Then word came to the king of Nineveh; and he arose from his throne and laid aside his robe, covered himself with sackcloth and sat in ashes. And he caused it to be proclaimed and published throughout Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; do not let them eat, or drink water. But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God; yes, let every one turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands. Who can tell if God will turn and relent, and turn away from His fierce anger, so that we may not perish? Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.” Praise His name!

I am not a Jonah. I hope for the salvation of all people, but I will obey my God. I know that He will do what is right in His own perfection. Choose you this day who you will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Your servant, ...........

I think this is a timely word. The thing about prophecy like this in the OT was that God always told Israel what was coming upon them if they didnt repent, followed by the blessings He would flow out on them if they did turn from their evil ways and repent... (I notice that this part is missing in this word) There was always a curse and a promise. This word is heavy on curse and light on promise... so I dont discount this word, but when I survey scripture I see that there is something out of balance.

Anyway...

The troubling thing is that Israel rarely heeded the Word of the Lord and repented... and I fear that America will not either.

bro Krispy Greetings in Jesus' Name by Whose Blood we are Saved.AMEN.

you said:

we must also consider that the prophets when sent forth were given a specific word each time and what we read is the full compilation of what God sent them with. God reserves the right to send a message according to His Purposes. Jeremiah preached many years, 40+ with little mention of blessing, perhaps because even the meaning of that word became perverted such that men extorted money and robbed and so on and counted that as a "blessing" from God. i do believe we don't need so much a reminder of the Goodness of God upon our repentance, Calvary is sufficient. the prophet of God says what God has in Mind for Him to say in that moment, if God has in mind to warn only of Judgment, then that is the message and it must not be added to nor detracted from. Perhaps God will send this brother out with such a word of comfort in the days to come so i wouldn't be so quick to say it is out of balance because God may not be done speaking yet.

as you know i do believe we're on the verge of a calamity which will undo us as a nation economically, governmentally, militarily etc. while i've not been given much else beside that, i do know that those of us bearing this message now will be given the sort of word in terms of comfort and so on in the days after the calamity. The words of comfort tend to be sparse preceding the judgments because God is making and presenting His Case against a people deserving of judgment. Often He reminds them of what they once were and that there is yet opportunity to repent. However it is after the Judgment that words of comfort really have a gravity men can appreciate because most of the time that's what it takes for men to repent and thus become eligable for the blessings which come with repentance...

maybe i'm wrong and if so God forgive me and set me straight.AMEN.

all the same you said this:

The troubling thing is that Israel rarely heeded the Word of the Lord and repented... and I fear that America will not either.

that too is my fear and it seems to be realized...it is as though we read the scriptures and think we're different/better than/not as foolish/(fill in blank here) than Israel and are exempt from judgment...yet when i look at the word, i see us as being guilty of the same things as Israel, if we are, then surely we're just as blind and just as likely to blow off the Lord's warning...maybe i'm tripping and God help me if i am

:-(

*sigh*

Grace and Peace are ours in Jesus.AMEN.

Of a fleshly nature according to stats we Americans have the biggest butts on the planet ... i think this applies to us spititually also except the word applied here is "but" ...

i've noticed that it seems to me human nature, even amongst the saved, that when such prophetic words go out as the one posted here by bro Greg, or for that matter any prophetic word that has to do with God's correction and/or judgment on this nation it's like anything save just recieving the point toward
repentance and an intecessory reaction in prayer, so instead of rising to the challenge of such messages the first thing we American saints have a tendency to do is to sit down instead on our "buts" ...

Bro Krisp please don't feel picked on here, as i'm just using what you posted as an example of what i see so much of, and yes have experienced first hand here on SI, as well as in my personal surroundings ... You posted;

QUOTE:
"I think this is a timely word. The thing about prophecy like this in the OT was that God always told Israel what was coming upon them if they didnt repent, followed by the blessings He would flow out on them if they did turn from their evil ways and repent... ---Amen ... the latter of what you said is surely the way we're going because like Israel of old we can't get up off our "buts", so God'll have to move us ... God knows if He is in fact choosing such poor unfortunates as the brother to deliver the message bro Greg posted, he's more than likely already experience countless saints who've just sat right down on their "buts" at his "word" ... This has certainly also been my experience, the best one being "but what if it isn't God talking to/thru you"? ... Just makes one wonder why God, if He is in fact doing so, would even bother to send such warnings via fellow saints as they are sure not to be heeded, especially so when in light He's given us the first three chapters of the Revelation, via His Son, to the pastors and laity of the 7 representative churches that make up the whole Church, in the proper order that you've mentioned, and we even refuse to hear Him ...

The bottom line is i think most saints here in America just can't get it past our sublime definition of God as one of infinite love, mercy, compassion and forgiveness, and have become ultimately blind to this very clear and present danger that He will make good on His warnings when we refuse to get up spiritually off our 'buts" ---

sermonindex Dec 19, 2007

I was in agreement with the "word", if in fact it is prophetic. (Just because others consider a word to be from God doesnt mean I automatically accept it as such) Just noting that it's a little off balance compared to similar prophetic words to Israel in the OT.

Also would like to point out that it is in vogue on forums like this one to disparage America, and Americans, and the American church. I would like to point out that while I would not disagree that we are in poor shape spiritually while materialistically we are fat... it is not as if every place else in the world is a 3rd world nation. I would dare say that Europe, Australia and the UK are so far gone that "Icabod" would be an appropriate word to describe them. And they are as materialistically fat as we are. (Purely speaking of the nations, not individual people...)

I get the sense that since God is delivering prophetic warnings to the US it means He hasnt pulled back His Spirit... yet. The church in America may be asleep, but it aint dead. High minded "spiritual" people love to condemn all that surrounds them. It's easy to do, and the American church certainly provides plenty of fodder. And almost everyone on this forum sees themselves as an Elijah... or wants others to see them as an Elijah.

I think once pressure is applied to the American church via some persecution you will see revival, you will see that the church aint dead.

The Lord speaks through us. His words through you have not gone unheard Greg.

Acts 2:17
In the last days, God says, “I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.”

The coming is coming, make no doubt about it.

2 Peter 3-4
In the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following in their own evil desires. They will say, “where is this ‘coming’ he promised…”

Revelation 22:12
Behold, I am coming soon!”

Judgement is near for America and all who do not call on His name.

Jeremiah 10:25
Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge you, on the peoples who do not call on your name…

He is our only hope.

Jer 17:17
Do not be a terror to me; You are my hope in the day of doom.

Blessings Greg, your words hit home.

--- Bro Krisp i'm truly sorry for your, or anyone elses discomfort, over what you call "nausiating American Church-bashing" on the SI Forum, and tho i don't necessarily agree with your observation for the greater part (because i think there's more critical concern displayed than bashing), really what would you expect of a web-site founded on, and dedicated to REVIVAL - that in itself points out to the fact that most who'd frequent this site aren't gonna be jumping up and down about how great we are in majority as Christ Church here in AMERICA ... Some of us on this site are very content with ourselves and how things are, just as some of us have a "they" mentality when it comes to indentifying with the Body because they see themselves doing alright in their own little part of the spiritual anatomy, but Paul says that we're all in this together, and as has been pointed out before with Israel when God got fed up with the majority of the "but" sitters even the faithful remnant was affected by His Divine displeasure and correction of the nation ...

i know that in many instances some folk on SI see others as way over the top, just as those who may be percieved as way over the top see some others as frivilous in the faith and not serious enough about the state of affairs of Christians here in the US ... Hey so be it, but as i said to you on another thread there's room for us all in the Body, we all need one another according to scripture, perhaps in many ways to tone down those of us who may be way past God in the fervor of what we do, and to tune up those of us who are way under-performing ... Also as i said before i'd rather be in a group of saints prone to the former, having to be toned down, than to the latter having to be tuned up, as the latter are far more pre-occupied with what nauseats them than the former who are way more concerned with what nauseats Him ...

Rev.3
[16] So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Bear with me bro, in just a little while longer if He proves me to be one way over the top in some weird personal zealousness, there will gladly be one less of those nauseating American Church bashers here on SI Forum :-D ...

To God be all glory, praise and honor! ---

I think what I'm expressing here is a weariness of the constant negativity. Dont get me wrong, we should always speak the truth, and many call that "negative". I just wonder if at times folks here are so busy pointing out all of the negative things in the Body of Christ that they completely ignore the positives. I think it gets back to a matter of balance. Even Jesus, when He addressed the churches in Revelation started each critique with some very positive observations before He launched into "... but this I have against you." Most of us here dont even do that... we just condemn condemn condemn... The American Church is often called Laodecia, and I believe it's true. But even the One whom we are to imitate found positive things to say to those folks before He lit into them.

I've noticed I've been extremely critical of anything and everything... and I dont want to be. And it effects my outlook too. It effects my joy.

--- Uhhh ... in reading the passage i think you'll find He had nothing "positive" to say about self absorbed, self condoned and self commending Laodicea until He gets to the points of what awaits them if they "REPENT" ...

Rev.3
[14] And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
[15] I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
[16] So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
[17] Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
[18] I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
[19] As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
[20] Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
[21] To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
[22] He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Bro Krisp you wrote;
"I've noticed I've been extremely critical of anything and everything... and I dont want to be. And it effects my outlook too. It effects my joy."

--- So don't be ... Be critical of only the things you believe our Lord is pointing out to you, and i can tell you from experience He starts with you ... i've always prayed to Him that He'd make me exacly what He wants me to be, even when i didn't really mean it, even when i've been scared to death of just what that might cost me in the "self" department, but above all else i do really want to see everything thru His eyes, because that's the only way i can know with assurity His truth that sets me free in all matters ... So ...

Are you sure it affects your "joy" (which is derived from being pleasing in the things of our Lord), or your "happiness" (which is derived from being pleasing in the things of our selves) ...
No need to answer, just asking ... This may sound utterly ridiculous but i'm finding the more unhappiness my "old man" experiences in being steered away from the concerns of this world, the more "joy" i have in my "new man" with becoming even more concerned with the things of our Lord ... i can experience the "joy" of our Lord even in His correction, and in actuality because of it because it serves as living proof of His connectedness to me, but my "self" never experiences happiness in such ... When in fact our Lord begins to pull the rose colored glasses away from our eyes, so that we may see our/the ugly realities we try to avoid, self happines suffers greatest, and it takes a while to come to the "joy" of His stark truth (eye salve) setting us free ...

Self centered faulty outlook is Laodicea's major sin ---

Even tho I have read that scripture hundreds of times, even I dont always get it right. :-) But having said that, I still see Jesus handing out an olive branch saying "Come back to me...".

It's getting so that around here Jesus is the only one holding out an olive branch. The rest of us, myself included, are generally not. I think for some it's a power kick to condemn everything we come in contact with.

Somethings need to be judged and confronted. I'm not saying that at all... but what I am saying is that the thing that is missing from most of us here is grace, mercy and love.

Well we do have to Judge here by what we see here correct? and your right in your statement above and what concerns me the most, are some here being "selfish" for not being the ones that sometimes should also be holding out an olive branch for the folks that might be new to Christ, or those looking for Christ and come here as a starting point to a path to Christ?

In my opinion you may be helping the meat of the Word folks here in their walk but what are we doing to the milk of the Word folks or the folks that don't even have the milk of the Word and don't even know Christ? I find it hard to believe that even Jesus did not find a medium in his travels so all could relate and use Love and Grace to bring all kinds into his kingdom and was not a total hard core slam everyone and everything every chance he got that might not line up "perfect" as some of us do here sometimes.

It selfish no matter were we all are in our walk to not at some point humble ourselves of our holier than thou attitude and hold out an olive branch and Minister to the folks that might come here that have never even heard of Jesus. Some might say "well" Mr. Bill that was not nice you saying our holier than thou attitude but rather you want to believe it or not, I personally have read some posts here that to someone that don't even know Christ would perceive some of us to be, sometimes even I see some here that appear to me that way God help the unsaved folks that slip in and out.

What happened to the old school kinder and gentler Christians that still Loved the Lord and were fire and brimstone Christians but somehow were able to get their message out by holding out an olive branch and not throwing it at folks?

Greg,
I am scared to say this and people will probably think that I am crazy, but God has given me the exact same scriptures and message that he has given you several times in the last several months. I can look in my prayer journal and give you the exact dates. This burden is very heavy on my heart, and the last thing that I want to see happen. I pray that it will never happen, but America has grown spiritually lazy and has forgotten that God is the provider of everything. It is only by His mercy and grace that we exist at all. When I have tried to tell people this in the past, they just look at me and say the economy is doing great and everything is fine. For me, reading your message was like a life-raft, because it means that God is telling it to someone else and not just me so maybe I am actually hearing what God is saying and am not crazy. :-)

Hi Greg...

I will certainly consider and pray in regards to this word. I am glad that you mentioned the account of Jonah. I truly believe that the JUSTICE of God (and even the LAWS of nature) can become gracefully constrained by the cries of the saints. This is true whether those cries come from the people themselves (as was the case in Nineveh) or from the righteous (as was the case with Abraham concerning Sodom -- if 10 righteous had been found).

Such a word (regardless of whether it is real or supposed) can be heavily burdensome. The word that you uttered, along with the one burdened upon other brethren (such as "Rahman" and "Ironman") can feel overwhelming at times. It is never popular to decry disaster. It is probably just as burdensome as those who preach against blatant sin in a "Don't judge me!" Church.

It has been about 35 years since David Wilkerson wrote The Vision. It has been at least a dozen years since he revealed his dream of "a thousand fires burning simultaneously in New York." While many of the things uttered have not come to pass, this fact doesn’t preclude them from being correct. It just means that the word has not yet been fulfilled.

I’m often reminded of Simeon, the man to whom was revealed that he would not die before seeing the Lord’s Christ (Luke 2:25-35). We are never told just how long it was between his reception of this “word” and his sudden revelation of baby Jesus at the temple. Was it a year, five years or fifty years? Alas, we will never know (this side of eternity)! But it was certainly a life-changing burden, to the point of relief when it was fulfilled (the guy was relieved enough to die in peace – verse 29).

On the other hand, I feel that the story of Jonah and Nineveh is extremely important to anyone who receives a word of judgment. What was the point(s) of the inclusion of this account in the Word of God? Was it simply to remind us to preach whatever God tells us – even if our reputation can suffer as a result (4:1-3)? Or was it to remind us of the Lord’s love and value of human life (4:9-11)? Was it to demonstrate that the world is often more merciful than the Church (1:11-16)? Was it to demonstrate that the Lord can “repent” of what his justice requires (3:10)? Was it to demonstrate that an ENTIRE sinful kingdom can turn to the Lord in true repentance (3:3:9)?

I read a fictional story once about an individual who “prophesied” about the fall of the Roman Empire. It never happened during his lifetime. It never happened during the lifetimes of his children. It never happened during the lifetimes of his grandchildren. In fact, the Roman Empire thrived for over another thousand years. However, 1300 years later, this “prophecy” was finally fulfilled. This man’s descendants felt vindicated with a “I told you so” type of attitude.

When will America fall? I don’t know. By prayer, I hope that God spares this nation. By prayer, I hope that this nation turns BACK to God (yes, back is a selected word) and experiences a third “Great Awakening.” Would God smite this nation as he did Sodom? I am currently under the impression that if God (in the days preceding the Old Covenant) would have spared a twin city as despicable as Sodom and Gomorrah for the sake of ten righteous men, then He would spare any American city for the sake of ten righteous men. I suspect that even New York, with its terrible tolerance for blatant sin, has at least ten righteous men attending Times Square Church. God has withheld His wrath from cities as sinful as Pyong Yang (the capital of North Korea) – where Christians are still tortured under the forced atheism of a communist tyrant. God has even withheld His judgment from cities in the Muslim world that have persecuted believers for centuries. Why? Why would God NOT pour out his wrath upon cities that have not only continued in sin, but have spilled the blood of believers? Is it possible that there exists a remnant of righteous believers amongst a sinful land?

While God might prevent Himself from pouring out wrathful justice, He still could allow the nations and cities of this world to fall according to their own human-caused consequences. The Third Reich, with its disgusting views of racial and political superiority and hatred for Jews, did not fall as a result of God pouring out fire from Heaven. God simply allowed nations to rise up against that empire. The Soviet Union didn’t fall from God’s wrath upon a cold and brutal atheistic form of government. Rather, the people quietly revolted in a desire for personal liberty. Empires have fallen throughout history without fireballs, economic depression, or even conquering armies. Sometimes, an empire falls simply out of the complacency of its leadership. The United Kingdom once boasted that “the sun never sets on the British Empire.” It held possessions around the world (including its colonies in North America). Now, the British Empire consists of a few islands.

We can safely assume that America will not be around by the end of the Tribulation. It does not appear to be mentioned in the book of Revelation. The present policy of America would not allow it to take a position against the nation of Israel. Will America be one of the areas destroyed by various judgments of God’s wrath? In an instant, a third of the Earth will burn. During the time of His wrath, God will destroy great parts of the Earth without discrimination. America, so it seems, will be a likely target – considering that Gog, Cush, and Israel (and possibly Rome) are mentioned.

Is America the great Babylonian whore? While many preachers speak this as a fact, I’m not sure that America actually fits the mold mentioned in Revelation chapter 17 (namely, the part mentioning her being “drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus”). While I recognize the economic description of this Babylon resembles the American economic superiority, I’ve actually wondered whether or not this new European Union (complete with a Euro that is vastly superior to the Dollar) will actually fulfill this reference in the near future. Remember, Rome is the “city of seven hills” (verse 9), and that same Rome is responsible for many despicable acts of murder against the true Church – from the time of Christ through the Inquisition (and even betrayal of believers to the Nazis).

Regardless of whether or not America is as sinful a nation as Iran or North Korea (or even Canada and the United Kingdom), we can all recognize the need for a true move of God in this land. If America could experience another “Great Awakening” – then I believe that any sort of judgment could be constrained for a time. My prayer is that the Lord would move within this nation without resorting to a calamity. The “I love you” letters that I wrote my mom (as a child) were more meaningful to her when they weren’t part of a required school project for Mother’s Day. Likewise, I think that a revival that is born out of simply hunger for God while it is still “day” (versus a need during calamitous “night”) is extremely precious.

The recent dialogue and “words of warning” have prompted me to pray harder for this nation and its people. They have encouraged me to more effectively reach out with the truth to a dying world around me. My secret time with the Lord is filled with wailing and travailing for a powerfully intimate move of God in my own life, my family, and friends; I am praying for my neighbors, the local Body of Christ, the national and worldwide Body of Christ and for this nation and world as a whole. Thank you (Greg, Rahman and Ironman) for sharing these. I am extremely grateful when a “word” inspires and convicts as such.
