Nothing

sermonindex Dec 24, 2007

Nothing

Those who have nothing
Have nothing to lose.
Those who hold loosely
Are blessed just to use.

When nothing is owned
There's no cost to maintain.
If something is lost
There's no sense of pain.

What a blessing it is
To count all things as loss,
In exchange for salvation
Paid for on the cross.

Lord help me to see
This world's passing away,
Consumed in a fire,
Just like stubble and hay.

It has nothing to offer
That should catch my eye,
Save only distractions
To which I must die.

You've called me your friend
And said what's yours is mine.
But there's nothing I want,
Except Your life for mine.

That's a good little poem!

Thanks for this reminder! It's hard sometimes to explain to our children how things take on a power of themselves if we don't intentionally let loose of them. We are to be funnels that God's blessings flow through. Lord make this a reality in my life! Thanks again!

Hi Barry,

Christmas greetings :-)

You have touched on a matter close to my heart, that I call 'channels only' theology.

We are to be funnels that God's blessings flow through.
I don't see this. I believe we are to be utterly changed by the life of God in us. This is where the power of being the 'channel' truly lies.

If there is no agreement between the channel and the power - for the power to change first of all the channel - then the dissonance which begins to reverberate in the believer's life can be unbearable.

But, I understand one has to believe in imparted righteousness, before it is possble to believe one's 'channel' can be affected by what is flowing through it.

Could an unclean channel could pour out something clean? We all would say not, but to abandon to God that the channel become clean - now there's the challenge of this faith in a nutshell!
