I found an intresting blogg on the subject of bibles, i am fortunate to own more then one. They facinate me and i like them alot :-) i think this site will be a good one for those looking to buy a new bible but dont know what to get....

I am now what i think is coveting the R. L. Allan's goatskin bibles, anyway interesting site for those who can afford and are fortunate enough to be able to own a bible, not to be taken for granted in our world.

well, id estimate it will last 20 years :-) i have heard testimony's saying so, so in the long run buying a well made bible will profit i believe . And the blog is very interesting, i have read much now there and i think i have this "bug" or "itch" . I do have nice bibles already....but..... a Allan made KJV Longprimer in goatskin..... or that ESV also by Allan.....

i got this thing for nice bibles.....anyone identify? or am i just strange :-D

I hope i understand in part on this. Would it be possible to get any Bible re-covered say in goatskin? Is this what they do or hopefully in part what they do? Sure would be wild to get our Newberry's changed into goatskin.

yes in the blog there are some article about this, i think they spoke about around 100 dollars, but yes, you could rebind your Newberry in goatskin :-)

Wow, that would put me pretty close to being 40 years old. 8-) Probably by then it would look like Ray Comfort's big Bible. :-P

I find this interesting... mind you, there is nothing wrong with getting your Bible refitted in goatskin, or buying a new one... but I have to wonder what our brothers in China or North Korea would think of this, considering they feel blessed to have one page of scripture smuggled in to them. I've read biographies of people behind to "iron curtain" who memorized whole books of the Bible because they were not allowed to have the Word of God in print.

Perhaps instead of spending over $100 on a Bible or cover, that money might be better spent giving it to a ministry that smuggles Bibles into places where our brethren have no scriptures.

Most of us here have multiple Bibles in our homes. I have about 9 KJV's in my house (this includes my wife's and my two older boys' Bibles), along with a shelf full of modern versions (used only to demonstrate to others why I reject them).

How blessed we are... and oh how terribly I take it all for granted.

Just a thought... no condemnation intended.

Yes i think this is an important thing, i think of something K.P Yohannan said in a sermon, that in some countries if you read the New Testament once, owned a bible , or read a book about the bible, they would make you head pastor on the spot because you knew so much! and that they in some regions considered them selfs very blessed if they had two bibles per so many churches.It should make our heart overflow with thanksgiving that we have a bible to read, and that we do not risk loosing our freedom or lifes because of it .

but also not long ago i spoke to one brother about how much we know! how fast we can access info over the net, share information and gather so much in a week that in old times took people a lifetime to gather.

And in some countries we can own 10 different kinds of bibles.... I dont see anything wrong with it, but i do pray we walk worthy of the privilege.

I also think of Wurmbrant, 14 years in prison he forgot the bible. And in one sermon Ravenhill speaks about that Russian man who just had one page of the bible for ten years....

I have three Allan bibles; the Allan Longprimer KJV in goatskin, the text-only Pitt Minion in goatskin and the English Standard Version in goatskin. I'm pleased with all three.

I had a problem with my Pitt Minion and they sent me a new one -great service.

To be honest though, I use a 37 year old Cambridge Cameo in goatskin as my primary bible, I bought it used online a while back, and its been great to me. It has a lot of blemishes, but they just add to the personality of the bible.

In all honesty i've never thought of donating Bibles that i own before, you bring up a very good point. I to have several Bibles as well. But to be quite honest i wouldn't know where to begin on who or whom to donate them. People here where i live or to an organization like oversees that you mentioned. I will pray about this for sure as to where the Lord might have me send them. Thank you for helping me to see this. It would be neat to see others follow in donating there "other" Bibles as well, for those who don't even own one at all.

Julian... if you wish to spend your time nit picking everything I write, be my guest. :-)

However, there is no double standard there. A double standard would be if I said "It's ok for me to spend $100 on a Bible, but it's not ok for you."

Thats not what I said at all, in fact I even said there is nothing wrong with buying a goat skin covered Bible. When I mentioned all the Bible's I have in my house it was more of a revealing that even I am guilty of "hoarding" God's Word while others go without. I was pointing the finger at myself.

So no, it's not a double standard. I am the cheif of sinners along with Paul.

The one thing that troubles me about this forum is that everyone is so quick to nit pick every little thing anyone says... boy that gets annoying sometimes.

And guess what... I'm guilty of that too!

What a bunch of hypocrites we all are! (myself included!)

I do love an old bible, hardcover is my preference. I have an 1801 bible collection in 10 volumes. The leather is very warn, what bound them looks like Balor Twine. I had a stack of old bibles that I rescued from a Church that was throwing them to the trash. I collect them until I see someone looking for bibles for a mission or something, (gee I'm righteous hehehe)

Everything you write? Since when? My apologizes if you think i was nit piking as you say. Wasn't aware i was doing that. But i do love how you explain things away by playing on words. You can say something and it's ok but when someone else says generally the same thing you come back harsh and with a smiley face.

The one thing that troubles me about this forum is that everyone is so quick to nit pick every little thing anyone says... boy that gets annoying sometimes.

Sure don't understand you here as i've seen you do this very thing to others. I or someone else says "tomatoes" and you say t(a)matoes. Your very good and quick to turn something someone says around and then blame them and then feel like your the one being picked on. It's very confusing, but then again we all are on a different level of maturity in the Lord of which i am very low on that scale. I'll leave this alone along with you from now on.
