TEND MY SHEEP

This is the greatest moral task conceivable.
Its accomplishment is the manifest will of God
for this generation. Every Christian motive is
calling for us to do it. If it is left undone;
millions of lives will be condemned to moral
degradation and spiritual starvation.
Does it look likely that we will lose our contact
with God if we plunge too deeply into His work??
Does it stand to reason that we should go astray
from Christ if we engage in unequal conflict
against organized wrong?? What kind of religion
is it which is likely to get hurt by being put to
work for social justice and our fellow man??

What comes to mind are a few scriptures [my emphasis]:

The basic foundation for our work

John 6:
28 ¶ Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

The power by which we must work

Colossians 1:
is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

Working according to Him - or not

Hosea 10:
Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars...

1Cor 3:
9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.
10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
11 ¶ For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

The cost of working our own empty works

Matthew 7:
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

I wrote this about twenty minutes before I read your post and filed it.

I was born dead in Adam, spiritually blind, spiritually deaf, unable to speak or move when Jesus called me out and me and my brothers and sisters in Christ have been loosening these old filthy rags off me every since. I see myself now as I was and I want to help others loosen themselves from their filthy rags of false religion and self righteousness and to seek the Kingdom of God and His salvation.. My heart breaks for them in their spiritually blind and deaf condition. I want to reach out to all those that have been called out and justified by faith and warn them not to fall into false religion but to stand on the Word of God and learn of our Lord and keep His saying because when the Bride Groom opens the door to the feast we have to be ready to answer His call to abide in Him. Every age has its false religion the MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
