Joyful that the Lord has given me the strength to stand
(Anti-Argument Disclaimer: Not try to bash sports at all here, but for me this area has been a foothold for Satan)
Still no reason to be sorry, brother! Don't be sorry for a victory! It's cause for rejoicing! (From one southern boy to another, I know that wasn't easy!)
Sports is a very real foothold for Satan for many people in many countries, so you're not alone. I don't mean to bash sports either. Truly I don't. Sports is like money. There's nothing wrong with it in itself. It's the love of it that causes great problems.
The world makes it very difficult for saints to enjoy a good game. We're bombarded with scantily clad women, beer commercials and all sorts of advertisements to ignite lust, greed, pride and desire. (Not to mention the hero-worship.)
I am far too biased to advise anyone on their sports viewing habits because I would say to get rid of your television altogether. Then people would find all the hours in the day they need to accomplish everything they need to do. Joy would return to people's houses and the brain-washing of the media and advertisements would wear off, making people feel other people's pain again and get them to think for themselves. Neighbors would get to know each other again. All kinds of sin would lessen!
But, I am not Holy Spirit, Jr., so I just tell people to pray and ask God what He would have them do. Then, as Mary told the servants at the wedding in Cana, "Whatever He says to you, do it."
