For centuries many Christians have speculated on who the beast, the false prophet is as described in Revelation. Many of these speculations have proven to be only that. It has kept a lot of people's imaginations busy...seems to be common among those of us who love eschatology! ;-)
A few years ago when studying (independently) Revelation, it seemed to me that modern Islam could very well figure into this mix. No, I think it will! or is! Now if you add Communism, Catholicism with Islam you will have a force that cannot be reckoned with except the hand of God. Of course, you will not need Catholicism or Communism in this mix, Islam could do quite well nicely all alone.
(Yesterday I got an email detaining the development of Dubai. It is nothing short of awesome, phenomenal. Then I got to wondering if this will not factor into the events prophesied in Revelation...if you want me to email it to you, send me your email addy by PM.)
My imagination perhaps, but am a tad bit afraid it may contain a kernel of truth based on my understanding of the Word.

i have recently watched the video, sent to me by VOM (voice of the Martyrs) on the Islam movement. Can't remember the title of the video. But in it showed similarities between the Nazi rise in the early 1900s and the Rise of Islam today. Children are being recruited, military schools are growing and many, many 'self proclaimed leaders' are preaching this heresy of 'kill the infidels.' This is a large scale front and we must be prepared. Their salutes are the same as the Nazis to Hitler. History has repeated itself and it has potential to be 7 times larger than Nazi, Germany.
In no way is this to promote fear, but rather preparation. Preparation that our Saviour draws nigh, He is coming...

I don't think any of us know-it-all on everything concerning which countries or powers are which, but it's interesting hearing other's views and throwing them into the mix.
I personally believe Daniel 8 is talking about how the war in Iraq and maybe going into Iran and taking them both out. Sad stuff. Then it 'looks' like the Quartet come in at vs. 8.
But that's just how I see it. I don't make this stuff Doctrine at all. I believe what God meant at the end of Daniel, is that He'll peel back our understanding 'as' these things start coming, like an onion.
I see the "horses" differently too.
I won't go into the white horse - which I feel is presently in power, but the red one seems to me to be Russia, the Black - Germany or Nazi type socialism and the pale/green - as the world gov - as in something like the UN. But again - I'm not saying anyone else has to feel that way, nor that He couldn't show me otherwise.
Hey, in the wee hours of this morning - (when nightowls hunt) - I was doing a study on the 'Large Hadron Collider' at CERN.
MaMaMia - these guys are NUTS. Over 6 billion dollars (so they say) and 16+ miles long, undergroud - just to find out what we could have told them from THE BIBLE.
Would have loved to have given this Cornell University physicist Maury Tigner a FREE Bible, rather than them shaking up the world with this monstrousity. HA! Type that thing into google. It made me sick to my stomach that they don't know the verses that explains it all. "In the beginning GOD...." and Heb 1:3 - Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, [i]and upholding all things by the word of His power[b]ETC.

Interesting posts here. We had a small thread on Dubai in the News section last year, by SermonIndex. The tallest building and then "the world" - those islands off the coast, spread out like the continents of the world. All that money and we can't feed the hungry. And then they sing, "It's a small world after all." :-(
