Prayer request from Mexico (PLUS VIDEO FROM SLUMS)

sermonindex Feb 18, 2008

Greetings in the name of Jesus!

Wanted to share a prayer request with our friends and fellow brethren here.

We have been ministering in Mexico for the past few months and are currently living here as missionaries to preach the Gospel. By the grace of God, I have already been privileged to preach in a number of places, such as local churches, the streets, in an open market, and now, in a slum village.

This slum village we just recently started going to. There is a woman there who we have been preaching to, and she has been on the verge of repentance. She knows she's not right, and needs to be born again, and is on the very verge of forsaking all to follow Christ, so please pray for her! There are also other people whose hearts seem to be opening up to the Gospel, and there are a lot of hungry souls in this slum village that want somebody to come into their homes and explain the Bible to them. We're planning on taking them up on these offers, but that means a lot of work, a lot of labor, and a desperate need for the Spirit of God to bear witness with our message in power to convert these souls.

Throughout Mexico, the religion consists of about:
90% Roman Catholic (ALL of which is another gospel)
6% Protestant (HALF of which is another gospel)
4% Indigineous and Other

Some of the people we have preached to have never heard the Gospel. When we sit down to do a Bible study, and say "Turn to the Book of John, chapter 3" some of them have no idea what we're talking about, and we have to explain to them that the Bible is full of different books, and how to break down the chapter and verse to find your place (a HUGE contrast to America where everybody knows it all!).

In this village, the Lord has also led us to help the children, and to teach them as well. We have only been on a children's outreach twice, but are already seeing some fruit in thier lives, how they light up with joy to see us, and are remembering what we are teaching them. We generally preach to the gathered adults, teach the children a lesson from the Bible about salvation, and sit down in the evening to have an Adult Bible study. We want to do more village evangelism with other methods in the near future, Lord willing, such as door-to-door and itinerant open air.

These children are dirt poor, literally, some sleeping in houses with dirt floors, their parents are totally negligent, sometimes they go days without eating, and worse. Many of them are filthy dirty, their heads covered with lice, running the streets, and have nowhere to go to have somebody care for them. They love it when we come and feed them, teach them about Jesus, and demonstrate the love of God. But brethren, I am writing this to desperately ask all our faithful brethren to pray for us!

I have put together a video with some of the kids. It has pics of the slums, the kids, and a little video footage. You can watch it here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=3BtMsXwH_sA

I will keep you in prayer.

I thank God for what you are doing in Mexico. I had the opportunity to serve as a missionary in Haiti last year and it was very similar to what you are doing.

May God continue to bless you.

Brother Josef, I still am having problems viewing videos, but may I tell you that since I first heard on the other site that you and your wife were going that I've been praying earnestly for you all.
GOD BLESS IT ALL and you all.

Praise the Lord! We appreciate prayer support very, VERY much!

So is Haiti a Spanish speaking country as well?
