At the foot of the cross
Where I have to lay down all that I hold onto..
Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to Thy cross I cling..
Where I saw the face of perfect innocence and obedience pouring out heart and soul and life.
Crying out, My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?
As His travail, the wounds, of His soul became the offering for sin...
and sinners...
for the hearts and souls and lives of those, much like myself;
burdened down by sin, scarred by the curse of sin and death;
tired and weary of the cycles of shame and sorrow.
Harrassed by the wolves of destruction, the hounds of hell that chased my soul into merciless shadows of self pity and self destruction.
When I survey the WONDEROUS cross on which the Prince of glory died....
"For He hath not despised nor abborred the affliction of the afflicted, neither hath He hid His face from Him; but when He cried out unto Him, He heard..."
"Father, forgive them...
"He shall see the travail of His soul and shall be satisfied.."
Love so amazing...so divine demands my soul, my life, my all....
At the foot of the cross; where I lay down my self pity, my sorrows, my anguish of heart, and poured out upon the ground the sickness of my sin.
I cling to the horns of the altar. I cry out in my despair, "LORD, have mercy on me!!"
and in the quiet of this dark hour I hear the voice of scriptures long ago, whisper to my heart:
"You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you...
Go, and sin no more...
Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest...
take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly and in Me you will find rest for your souls..
You are a chosen vessel of mine....
Take up your cross and follow Me..."
While all within me condemns my soul, and for every right purpose I should die and be subject forever to eternal judgement.. yet
One came to my aid, He said: "I will bear the reproach of this lost lamb." and He took away my garments of shame and He gave me a white robe, and as my tears washed away, and LIFE gave way to death; LIGHT gave way to darkness, JOY gave way to shame, HOPE gave way to despair!
Yes, He has brought me to places of learning, desert places, stormy places... yet in their midst He was always the water in the desert... the peace and calm on the crashing waves, the cleft in the rock.
I have found Him whom my soul loveth, He is my Redeemer, He is my Savior, He is my all..
Jesus lover of my soul, let me to Thy bosom fly, while the nearer water roll, and the tempest still is high. Hide me oh my Savior, hide.. till the storm of life is past. Safe into Thy haven guide, oh receive my soul at last.
