[b]An Open Public Confession
I would like to openly and publicly repent, and in doing so bring forth a very serious warning in the form of exposing some of the tricks that the enemy has used on me and has been propagating among many saints and many of those I have come to know and love personally. Please do not take this warning lightly, but rather regard this as a serious warning given out of a pure heart of love and concern.
I believe the Lord has exposed in my life two distinct but similar sets of spirits or tricks of the enemy that have infiltrated the ranks of many holiness, revival and repentance preachers, fellowships, brothers, sisters and close friends – I say this not to point fingers or to judge or condemn my fellow brothers and sister but rather out of extreme love and concern in hopes to bring about repentance and right standing with God. I also believe, through personal experience, the Lord has shown me how these demonic influences or tricks of the enemy mask themselves as supposed “good things” of God. My desire is to write a short and concise pulling away of the veil and an exposing of the enemy based on my own experiences. My heart is not again to point fingers or to judge anyone, but rather bid the reader to judge himself lest he be judged based upon my personal testimony and the Word of God. I will name the influencing spirits or tricks, expose their cover (pull off their mask), and describe how they manifest in ones life, from my own personal encounters.
1. The first set of spirits from the enemy is judgmentalism and criticism. These spirits mask themselves as the gift of discerning of spirits. They tell those they have infected or seek to influence that they have a gift of discernment of spirits. They manifest themselves in ones life by constantly noticing the faults and shortcomings of other saints. Constantly noticing and picking apart the shortcomings and faults of other saints is not discernment of spirits – picking apart the faults along with the doctrinal and theological errors of other saints in NOT discernment of spirits. I would often have weird or “icky” feelings about other saints when I meet them – I would just know something is wrong and I must “beware” and find out what is wrong with them. Do you have similar feelings when you meet or get to know other saints? If the answer is yes, then there is a very good chance you are operating under the influence of judgmental and critical spirits. I would constantly see the faults and errors of other believers morally, doctrinal or theologically that would cause me to want to separate from them, not work with or even to not listen to sermons of those who don’t agree with my doctrinal or theological convictions (i.e. Calvinism - Arminianism, gifts of the Spirit, denominational background/affiliation, etc, etc, etc..) Take a look at your own life and see if you have similar feelings. If the answer is yes then there is a very good chance you are operating under the influence of judgmental and critical spirits as I was.
Discernment of spirits is a gift that is for the edification of the Body. If you do discern something in another person out of the true gift of discernment of spirits, the result would be a rush of overwhelming love and concern for this poor soul and strong desire to help, intercede in prayer for and to work with the person you have discerned correctly about out of love and concern for their soul. Spirits of judgmentalism and criticism working and operating under the mask of discernment of spirits produce weird or “icky” feelings and desire to distance yourself from and not to work or fellowship with a person or persons. See I will still at times discern things about certain people but the result of the discernment is different - the old was based in separation, anger- “that person is TERRIBLE!” and a desire to come against the person; the new is based in love and concern- a desire to help along with patience and longsuffering to work and strive with the person. You can clearly see the difference between the old and the new – one is clearly from the devil and the flesh, the other is from God.
BEWARE - often judgmental critical spirits tell you TRUE things about people, so it appears that you are right. Other times they tell lies about people or cause one to mis-apply Scripture AGAINST another brother or sister. If you think you have a gift of discernment of spirits test yourself against the words above!
(Gal 6:1) BRETHREN, IF any person is overtaken in misconduct or sin of any sort, you who are spiritual [who are responsive to and controlled by the Spirit] should set him right and restore and reinstate him, without any sense of superiority and with all gentleness, keeping an attentive eye on yourself, lest you should be tempted also. (Amplified Bible)
You see according to Scripture, if we see a brother or sister in sin of any sort of misconduct we are to restore and reinstate him in a Spirit of gentleness and meekness, but sad to say and to my own shame I myself along with many others who feel they have the gift of discernment seldom treat those they see in sin this way. Rather the opposite, we talk about them with other brothers and sisters behind their back, cut them off, rail against them, break fellowship with them and condemn them to hell, as not saved, or not a brother. See the thing is, that unless you claim to not fall short of the infinite perfection and glory of God in thought, word, motive, deed or action, then you have shortcomings that others may see and that you do not. Is that how you would have others who see your sins or shortcomings that you do not see treat you? Or more importantly is that how you would have God treat you? How long has God strived with you in your sin and theological and doctrinal errors? Are we not in many cases just like the wicked servant in Matt 18:23-35 who was forgiven his debt, but went out and condemned his fellow servant (not a wicked sinner, but a fellow servant)? It is important we judge ourselves and if we are not in many ways just like that wicked servant in the way we deal with our fellow servants of Christ, for that parable ends with a solemn warning from the mouth of Jesus - And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. (Mat 18:34-35) The word trespasses covers not only personal offenses but has a much broader definition - par-ap'-to-mah From G3895; a side slip (lapse or deviation), that is, (unintentional) error or (wilful) transgression: - fall, fault, offence, sin, trespass - a lapse or deviation from truth and uprightness
(Gal 6:2) Bear (endure, carry) one another's burdens and troublesome moral faults, and in this way fulfill and observe perfectly the law of Christ (the Messiah) and complete what is lacking [in your obedience to it]. (Amplified Bible)
We must endure one another’s troublesome moral faults and in this way fulfill the perfect law of love. When we do not bear and endure and carry one another’s burdens and troublesome moral faults, it is a severe form of spiritual pride, lack of love and rebellion against God. We place ourselves in a place of sinlessness, moral perfection and faultlessness above our brothers and sisters, and place ourselves in terrible spiritual pride of which I myself have been guilty of and repented from. Listen to the words of God spoken through the apostle John:
(1Jn 5:16) If you see a Christian brother or sister sinning in a way that does not lead to death, you should pray, and God will give that person life. (NLT)
Judgmental and critical spirits also have caused me to make absolutes that the Scripture does not make, and put forth my own laws and judgments on others. For example, type or style of music, type or style of worship, prayer or meetings, how much money one has or how one spends, etc. Judgmental and critical spirits have caused me to make absolutes in such areas and condemn or look down on those who fall short of my standard or the way I personally feel lead by God to do things – When someone is under the influence of such spirits then all must conform to their ways, methods or styles of doing things or they are painted with a brush of “less then holy”. This form of judgmentalism and adding law to the freedom of the Gospel is no different then what we find in the Galatians or in Romans 14.
(Jas 4:11-12) Don't speak evil against each other, my dear brothers and sisters. If you criticize each other and condemn each other, then you are criticizing and condemning God's law. But you are not a judge who can decide whether the law is right or wrong. Your job is to obey it. God alone, who made the law, can rightly judge among us. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to condemn your neighbor? (NLT)
Instead of judging each other and our brothers and sisters in Christ, we should judge ourselves and see if we are obedient to the passage above lest we be judged. Let us lift up and support our brothers and sisters in Christ who are preaching the truth of the word of God in this dark hour where many are being led astray by false gospels, prosperity and easy believe-ism instead of being judgmental and critical complaining about every doctrine and method or style that falls short of our personal convictions or our self-righteous standards of holiness. Please take heed of the following Scripture.
(Jas 5:9) Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you [yourselves] may not be judged. Look! The Judge is [already] standing at the very door. (Amplified Bible)
2. The second set of spirits or influences from the enemy is ANTI-mercy and ANTI-grace. First of all I would like to state that all four of these spirits or influences work together and are “attracted” to each other – if you have the first set you probably have the second set or at least associate closely with those who do. ANTI-mercy and ANTI-grace mask themselves as jealousy for the glory of God. These are some of the worst spirits or influences of the enemy because they are so incredibly ANTI-Christ and mask themselves as such a good and necessary thing as jealousy for the glory of God. Should we have – must we have an insatiable jealousy burning inside of us for God and His Glory? Absolutely yes, yes, yes a thousand times yes!!! But here is the difference, ANTI-mercy and ANTI-grace cause people to break away from others who have faults or who have what we perceive as doctrinal or theological errors and separate ourselves from them under the guise of purity. These evil, wicked and vile spirits say – “there’s no hope for them – we must be jealous for the glory of God so we must kick them out – We must break fellowship, disassociate or separate ourselves from them - they are apostate – there’s no hope for them, there’s nothing more I can do, etc.” thus quenching the very grace and mercy of God. It sure is a good thing that that is not the way God has dealt with us or we would all be in grave trouble! These spirits have caused me to stand in condemnation of others even to the point where I didn’t want to witness to certain people or have given up hope for them – i.e. those in the church system or Babylon, rich people, those in gross error such as prosperity gospel, prophetic movement, those who are deemed lukewarm, etc. When I was under these spirits I would rather cast these people away then to continue to strive with them, I would rather separate from these people then to continue to strive with them all in guise and mask of jealousy for the glory of God and purity in the body. We most certainly should never compromise the Word of God, water down the truth or placate or comfort someone in their error but we should continue to strive in love, concern, mercy and grace with those held captive to such error until they cut us off not the other way around. We should strive with others just as God had strived with us when we were in rebellion to Him.
ANTI-mercy and ANTI-grace work hand in hand with judgmentalism and criticism. True jealousy for the glory of God is dripping with grace and mercy for those who have been led astray, who have come to believe a lie, who are hard hearted from the satanic culture in which they live and who have been sucked into Babylon and it’s system. True jealousy for God’s glory would never write these souls off to the devil – this would be the opposite of jealousy for the glory of God and rather be giving glory to Satan himself! Any jealousy for the glory of God that is not drenched and soaked with the love, mercy and grace of God for ALL souls is a false jealousy produced by the lies of the spirits of ANTI-mercy and ANTI-grace.
I used to think that I had Truth because I was a seeker of Truth and those who are in error just aren’t true seekers of truth so God has handed them over to believe a lie? Although one may be able to point to Scripture to defend such a view, it is a view to my own shame that is stinking with spiritual pride and is a favorite trick of ANTI-mercy and ANTI-grace! The truth is that any Truth you have received, you have received purely by the mercy and grace of God! Not that you deserved it or did anything to merit yourself worthy to receive Truth and others have not – the truth is that we all deserve nothing but to burn in hell for all of eternity under the eternal wrath of God for our sin and rebellion against a Holy God and anything we have more then that is purely by the grace and mercy of God. ANTI-mercy and ANTI-grace love to cause us to lose site of this fact and cause us to walk in spiritual pride and condemn those who have received less Truth then we perceive we have ourselves. Have you ever took a staunch position on a doctrine or theological view to later change your mind due to recent revelation from God? How dare us then condemn others based on our current perceived theological or doctrinal views.
I speak from personal experience having been under the influence of such spirits myself and publicly repent for such terrible sin. Please consider this as loving and gentle yet very serious warning from the Lord! When I was under the influence of such spirits as judgmentalism, criticism, ANTI-mercy and ANTI-grace my entire knowledge of God and Jesus Christ had been perverted. If I was to stand before the judgment seat in that state, there is a good chance that the God I would be standing before would not have been the god I thought I knew! Brothers and sister, in this terrible time of lukewarness, false gospels and prophets, error and darkness, we need to stop putting our focus on the error and rather preach the truth in love, concern, mercy and grace. We need to stop focusing on other true brothers and sisters who preach the truth of the Word of God and the true Gospel of Jesus Christ picking apart their theology, doctrine, methods, styles, motives, faults and errors – but rather REPENT and turn our focus to Christ. Let us focus on Christ and He will work His love, grace, mercy, patience and longsuffering in our lives through the Holy Spirit, thus making us effective witnesses and lights to those around us caught up in sin or the errors we see today. When we put and keep our focus on Christ and Christ being formed in us the light and sweet fragrance and aroma of the love of Jesus will emanate from our lives and effect and change those around us who the Lord has called us to be witnesses. The hour is late my friends – REPENT and turn to Jesus putting all your focus, heart, mind, soul and strength on Him. Keep your eyes and heart on Christ!
