Hallelujah! Israel turns 60! (the end is near!)

sermonindex May 16, 2008

I'm surprised that this hasnt come up on this forum this week.

This week the modern state of Israel celebrated its 60th anniversary. At 12am on May 14, 1948, the fledgling nation announced its statehood with the following declaration: "Our call goes out to the Jewish people all over the world to rally to our side ... and to stand by us in the great struggle for the fulfillment of the dream of generations for the redemption of Israel."

Eleven minutes later U.S. President Harry Truman announced his recognition. Jews celebrated throughout the world. In Rome they paraded under the ancient Arch of Titus, which was built almost 2,000 years ago to celebrate the conquest of Jerusalem by the Roman armies in 70 A.D. and which features depictions of Jewish captives and articles from the Jewish temple.

After two millennia of persecution, the Jews were back and they still spoke their ancient language! This is one of the most amazing events in history and proves the divine inspiration of the Bible, which predicted it 4,000 years ago. Israel's entire history was prophesied by Moses and recorded in the book of Deuteronomy.

God warned that if Israel broke His law she would be "plucked from off the land" and scattered "among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other" (Deut. 28:63-64). There the Jews would "find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the Lord shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind: And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life" (Deut. 28:65-66).

This is an accurate description of the last two millennia of Israel's history. Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 A.D. by the Roman armies under Titus and in 135 A.D. Jerusalem was plowed under by order of Emperor Hadrian in response to the Jewish rebellion led by Bar Kochbar. The Jewish people were scattered to the ends of the earth and found no rest.

They were hated by the Muslims and hounded and persecuted by the Greek Orthodox Byzantines and the Roman Catholic Church for a thousand years.

Hitler tried to destroy them.

Giving preference to the Arabs, England tried to keep them from returning to their land after World War II. Most of the world is still opposed to Israel and the reporting in secular publications about the Middle East crisis is generally slanted against her. But Bible prophecy foretold that Israel would be brought back into her land and that she would remain a nation even after all of this, and that is exactly what happened in 1948. Never before in the history of the world has a race of people been scattered throughout the world and persecuted for 2,000 years and then come back together as a nation.

Bible prophecy describes the restoration of Israel in two parts. First, she would return to the land in a state of unbelief. Then she would be converted. The amazing prophecy in Ezekiel 37:1-14 describes these two stages. Israel is depicted as a valley of bones that are resurrected. First the bones are given sinews and flesh and they stand up but with no breath in them, and next God breathes upon these dead bones and they live.

The first part of the prophecy has been fulfilled. Israel is back in her land as a nation, but she is there in unbelief. She continues to reject her Messiah, Jesus Christ. She has no temple or priesthood and no true worship. During the Great Tribulation God will grant repentance unto Israel and will breathe spiritual life into her and she will live.

The continued existence of Israel is a very great miracle and an irrefutable evidence of the divine inspiration of the Bible, and it reminds us that we need to be ready for Christ's return.

I am really curious to know what the atheist do with Biblical prophecies of world events as they so blindly spew out their blasphemous rhetoric about the Bible having lost it accuracy in being translated so many times. How would they know right?

If the atheist read a Bible in unbelief and continued in unbelief they would have no Spirit for understanding the tongues of it and be able to interpretation what it said, as God gives both the Spirit and the interpretations when and as He see fit. A parallel of this is when Jesus read the prophecy out of Isaiah in the temple to the pharisees and they couldn't understand it or see it, even when Jesus told them and finished reading, He closed the book and said, TODAY THIS PROPHECY IS FULFILLED BEFORE YOUR VERY EYES.
Wow!

He gives more grace to the humble. Grace is how we get anything.

Maranatha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are blind. You have to ask the same questions about the Jews. All of this was prophecied in the OT and NT. The NT even went into more detail, yet the Jews cant see it. According to scripture there is a veil over their eyes, and thats why they cant see it.

We have the Holy Spirit living in us, and He is our teacher, and He reveals scripture to us. But the atheist hates God, rejects God, and I think in most cases God has turned them over to a reprobate mind... completely shutting off whatever ability they have on their own to understand and see.

Hello,

Can I be provocative?

First, she would return to the land in a state of unbelief. Then she would be converted. The amazing prophecy in Ezekiel 37:1-14 describes these two stages. Israel is depicted as a valley of bones that are resurrected. First the bones are given sinews and flesh and they stand up but with no breath in them, and next God breathes upon these dead bones and they live.

Are there any other instances in the scripture where Israel was able to enter back into the land in a state of unbelief? Or is the sole evidence based on the interpretation of those verses you referenced?

In other words, has the general rule always been that Israel would repent then they would be placed back into the land, but for this final time it's reversed?

2Ch 30:9 \tFor if ye turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children [shall find] compassion before them that lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the LORD your God [is] gracious and merciful, and will not turn away [his] face from you, if ye return unto him.

I'm just being provocative, I don't have the answers.

This is the first time since the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD that Israel as a nation has been in the land.

There have always been a certain amount of Jews living in the land under Palastinian rule, or British rule... or whoever else. But this is the first time the Jews have been there as a recognized sovereign nation since 70 AD. (even tho in 70 AD they were under Roman rule, they still had their own system of theocratic government... that was subject to Rome)

A small number of Jews moving in and out of the physical land is not what I believe scripture is referring to. Scripture is referring to the nation of Israel. And here we are, 2,000 years later... the only nation to ever cease to exist, scattered to the far reaches of the globe... and then brought back together again... as a nation. It has never happened before in the history of the world.

What we see today is the fulfillment of prophecy. It's not just a fluke or a coincidence. There is no way it could be.

My question is, why is is that in history past they always had to be right with God as a whole to enter or abide in the land and yet this time they don't? If in history past this is what happened then why didn't we see a large revival of Jews turning to Christ right before/or at the same time they were restored to the land?

Rev 2:8-11

These are the words of him who is the First and the Last, who died and came to life again. 9 I know your afflictions and your poverty-yet you are rich! I know the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. 10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.
11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.

Rom 11:16-26

16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.
24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?
25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
26. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

KJV

It gets too deep for me to Preach. I don't understand it all about Israel either but I thought these scriptures are connected to the subject at hand. I guess I'm being provative too.

Isaiah 35:10

And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Did they return with "songs and everlasting joy" in 1948?

Is this the only Scriptures upon whom you base your 'two parts/stages' theory?

Moe,

I don't see any of those talking about them being put in the land. It's possible they are referring to them becoming Christians. Most today believe that the romans verses are talking about that.

Simply put... thats not what God had in mind, as He stated in Ezekial. I refer you back to the original post.

So basically you all believe that the mere existence of Israel right now is some big coincidence?

Basically I'm just asking questions that I've never heard anyone have an answer to. :-D

I want to base what I believe on the scriptures and what they are saying rather than try to interpret the scriptures to fit into what the newspaper is saying. I'm not saying you do this, but as I'm sure you know many do this. Since I've seen others do this, I don't want to fall into it myself. Some of the things I'm asking put some questions in my mind concerning the whole ordeal.

EDIT: Again, please don't take it I'm saying your basing your theology off of the newspaper. I'm just saying that some change their theology as much as the newspaper changes and I don't want to even resemble that.

Of course not. The question is what's the God's real purpose and meaning of the present day Israel in the light of all prophecies and history.

As I said, I don't understand all about Israel and the Jews either, but I'm not a Jew by birth but a Jew by adoption through the blood of Jesus so we don't have to worry about that. There could be some favor there for Israel, that's God's business, but as I said this don't apply to us as Gentiles. The two verses to base the subject at hand on, No there is more, the verses of prophecy that started the subject that brought us to the verses that I posted.

You sound as if you may be one those who is going to earn their way to heaven by going through the great trib instead of the blood of Jesus, If so, and you have it in your mind that way, I guess that's your propagative
If we are gentiles or Jews and have trusted Christ through His blood on the cross as both Lord and Savior is the only way we came be right before God. A Jewish born person can do that as well right now and trust in Christ. As for the Jewish people and the great tribulation, I haven't been given enough discernment on that at the present time to make that call. He hasn't let me see that totally clear yet.
My advise for both Jews and Gentile to be saved and missing the great tribulation and becoming a first round draft choice is to trust Christ and Him alone as both Lord and Savior whether you be a Jew by birth or a Gentile by birth.

As I told another post triber yesterday. Before you open another can of worms on post trib, go back to the last thread you abandoned about a month ago because you couldn't answer by scripture the questions that were ask to back of your post trib theory, before you open another.

Hey Preach... dont sweat it, it's all good. I dont have all the answers either. I'm about as far away from being Jewish (referring to bloodline) as a man can be. And certainly there is a lot of prophecy that just doesnt make sense.

But it's a miracle of God that in 1948 Israel came into being... just as it was said that it would.

Israel turns 60, quite an amazing thing. Sadly, she is looking bad for her age. It won't be long before she'll die again. Hopefully this time around she learn her lesson that none of her previous exiles or holocausts have taught her. Hopefully this time around, the church will be up to the task of being what it must be to the Jew so that it might be what it must be unto God.
