Ron, I liked your post, as the spirit behind it bore witness to me. I believe that we are witnessing nothing less than the "GREAT FALLING AWAY", prophesied in the Bible. "The end shall not come UNTIL there is a great falling away, and the man of sin, the son of Perdition is revealed."
Churches that a mere 50 years ago preached fire and truth, are now ecumenical[all encompassing] to the degree of ordaining Lesbian couples as the Pastors! UNITED METHODISTS.
John Wesley would be a little perturbed, you think? but that is just the surface.
The Lord judges the Church first, and it is because the church has become a God hater, and threw up her skirt first, that the Nation has done the same. If my people, who are called by my NAME!!!! will humble themselves and pray....Then I will hear, an heal their land![para]
The church has become rich and proud, and has need of nothing, especially the discipline of the Father. This necessary breaking does nothing in her eyes, but crimp her style.
After a while, the worst judgements come, in the worst way....by stealth....That's when the Holy Spirit has left, and no one notices. He was grieved. No one listened, but over rode Him at every turn.....from the announcements, past the "offering", to the predetermined "message". to the benediction, and of course, "the handshake". ..and they called it "Church."
A far cry from that community where love for Jesus and each other came first, and the meeting came second or third. Well, that would take the power away from the Pastors, wouldn't it??
So, the church is defined as the meeting, and it's run to maximum efficiency by men, and one day people are surprised that things seem a little dead. "Oh, we'll make it OK. Lets just love everybody, and create a nice place for everybody to worship at."
And that's what they do and get. The problem is that society and culture eat at your table too, for you are the God bearers. Corruption in a society always begins with corruption in the Church. When apostasy and
sin comes, without repentance, so does
