Soup Kitchen / Service

Does anyone know of a church or an organization that has a soup kitchen or program to help the needy and then a service with them on sunday mornings??

the Lord has laid a burden heavy on my heart to be a part of something like this, but i do not know of a place around me that has something like this. i tried the calling the salvation army church/building, but they just have a regular worship service.

i have talked to people and they say "well, start one then", but i shrink back from that. i don't want to be guy trying to "start a new ministry". i can careless about that nonsense. i guess my heart is to serve the needy and poor instead of just "going to church" (like i have done all my life).

i guess it's kinda like that whole "being" vs just "doing". i'm open for wisdom and opinions.

Hello brother, my advice is that you seek God

Prayer,fasting and his word.

A sermon that comes to my mind that may help you,

Hey brother Phil,

This may not be the answer that you want to hear, but I would have to agree with the "start one" crowd.

The simple fact that the Lord has placed this burden of service on your shoulders and then you notice that no organization is doing this may be a confirmation that you ARE supposed to start one. The Lord may be changing your heart and mind to take that leadership role. This leadership role may be getting all the proper people in place to run this, or maybe find financers or food donators, etc...

Philippians 2:5-9 9NKJV)

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,

Pray on this brother. You may not see that the Lord is already guiding and directing you what to do.

Blessings and I pray an abundant harvest through the Lord's doing in you.

thank you brothers for your responses. each of you gave me something to consider and keep in prayer.

christian- i haven't been able to hear that sermon, but i will do so this weekend. i am excited to hear brother katz. thanks.

compton- i checked out the site. i am a little leery because i don't know much of what episcopal's believe, but i know they seem very close to catholics. nevertheless, i checked out their directory and checked out the couple of churches kinda nearby where i live, but they only have quiet reflective time in the early morning and then a regular worship service (whatever that looks like cause i don't know) after the quiet time. but no feeding or helping program on sundays.. thanks for the thought and the website link.

miccah- you're right, that's not the answer i wanted to hear. but i appreciate your post and i will continue to meditate on it and let the Lord do in me whatever He wants in this situation.. just waiting on Him while He's probably waiting on me to let Him do more stuff in my life.

thank you guys very much,
phil

That's understandable Philip. They don't know seem to what they believe either. I only included the link because I had just seen their "Slice Carrots" ad, a few seconds before I saw your question. :-)
