Eastern Orthodox

so i spoke to an old friend of mine today and found out he is an eastern orthodox Christian. i had a long conversation with him and well it was actaully pretty cool.

They are like the Catholic church but minus the indulgenses, saint and mary worship along with the rosary and no purgatory. It was pretty funny but i didnt have much to say to him apart from the Lord's blessings. he believes in Christ as Lord and encourages to live a holy life... i guess no objections here lol.

any thoughts on the eastern ortho church ?

My brother-in-law is Eastern (Russian) Orthodox.

It's an early church heresy. They do pray to the saints and would resent any comparison to the Catholic church. They view the Catholics as a heresy and the Protestant Church as a cult which split from the Catholic church.

They believe in theosis, the process of spiritual evolution into becoming God. They also believe that the icons in their churches are just as inspired as God's Word and are equal in the ability to teach the truth. They deny justification by faith.

I have only talked to 2 Eastern Orthodox folks and neither of them had what we could call "Blessed Assurance". Both were afraid they would be cast into hell on judgement day. Any "church" that cannot give a person assurance in the person and work of Jesus is missing the proverbial "IT" of Christendom

oh well didnt sound like anything of what you guys just said lol. ill ask him on that later on when i speak to him again.
