It's amazing how we can get a picture of someone from their preaching and writing- but yet we could be missing the 'real' man- who he is at home and with his family. This is not to say he wasn't a Godly man- I know he was- but he wasn't perfect and it's interesting to see that despite his closeness to God that he might have struggled with obedience to God in his family life. Just makes him all the more real like the rest of us.
Reading biographies like these help us to keep our foocus on Jesus and not put certain 'men' on pedestals. It's amazing what God can do in a person's life, how God can use a man or woman- yet they all have areas that were/are lacking.
