What a place of great sorrow and joy all mixed together is mercy! Sorrow on my part, once I realize, as a child, the broken heart of my Heavenly Father, the broken heart of the dear Savior.
Yes, true repentance leads to true forgiveness, and the opportunity for true freedom, and what a glorious freedom it is indeed!
When once realized that the Holy Lord of glory, who so suffered upon a cruel cross, who poured out His life while here on this earth and even now continually pours out His life to cleanse, to pardon, and to free from all vile stain, there is no word to describe the depth of that realization.
Oh how our own hearts can deceive us. How easily we can doubt the power of God to cleanse, to heal what the enemy has ruined; and to fill us with an unyielding, unflinching love and devotion for Him who seeks after the wandering sheep.
Oh, may we all be as that picture in scripture of the woman who poured out her precious oil, even an oil of mourning onto the feet of Jesus at the Pharisee's home; not focusing on any shame- only focusing on He who removes shame with His love and Word. [i]... her sins which are many, are forgiven.... and He said to her, 'Thy sins are forgiven.'
Lord, let us never forget the sound of that beautiful phrase: [i] Thy sins are forgiven
Then we will remember that our life is not our own, that we were bought with a price. That our now redeemed life belongs to the King of Kings, and all is His: time, thought, sorrow, struggle, loves, words, prayers, business... all belongs to Him. Yet, He graciously gives us back to steward these things for Him.
Depth of Mercy- Charles Wesley
[i]Depth of mercy! can there be
Mercy still reserved for me?
Can my God His wrath forbear-
Me the chief of sinners, spare?
I have long with-stood His grace,
Long provoked Him to His face,
Would not hearken to His calls,
Grieved Him by a thousand falls.
Now incline me to repent,
Let me now my sins lament;
Now my foul revolt deplore,
Weep, believe, and sin no more.
There for me my Savior stands,
Holding forth His wounded hands;
God is love! I know, I feel,
Jesus weeps and loves me still.
Blessed be the name of the Lamb of God, slain for sinners since the foundation of the world. Our Lord Jesus Christ: [i] Wherefore He is able to save to the uttermost them that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them.
Praise His dear name, that name above [b]every
