Before I read your article my reaction was "Oh brother... another Todd Bentley thread!"

But I did read the article, and thought it was very good. Insightful. Worth the read.

I am just sick at my stomach that one of our members of Lakewood brought this Matthew Stephens guy that confessed that he used to be mixed up with this Todd Bentley guy to speak words over our Pastor. This person that brought this guy into Lakewood is a long time member and should know better, The Bible warns us to “test the spirits to see if they are God.” it appears more than ever we are now being attack within the body, the only way we can fight this is stay in Prayer more than ever. I guess there are just starving Christians that feel like they are drying up and need more so they experiment "in my words" by testing others things, what! have they already got God figured out and now he is boring? it's a sad time, sad, sad time for the Church.

Well, this is just the natural result of years and years of this fluffy "dont judge" attitude that has swept the church. Instead of standing for pure doctrine, and exercising church discipline... we've opened the door for the wolves to come in... and come in they have!

I dont know about you, but I would have difficulty submitting to a church leadership that doesnt have any more discernment than that, my brother Bill.

And this is why I have not been to Church for over two months now, am I looking for another one? not yet, and why not Mr. Bill? because I will only find another corrupt one in some other way than the Gospel presented, I am really just thinking about Pastoring myself in the mirror.

... or you could ask the Lord to lead you to the right fellowship, and trust Him to do it. :-)

I've been right where you are. I understand.

To Jon Speed: I enjoyed your well written and discerning article, and I might add it's prophetic overtones. There have been perhaps ten solid articles posted revolving around this madness.

I just reviewed a pro- Bentley site, where many of his former teachings were revised and edited...Revisionist history. It rings hollow, and comes across weird and fragmented, with a muddy picture attempting to tie grace and repentence into his warped theology of being blessed. His teaching pamphlets and videos are out there...Teaching things about how to attain transcendental portals to heaven[ as Todd has done many, many times] , and experiences of the angels of God gutting you...literal disembowelment, only to heal you on your insides with angelic surgery. These are of course, the deeper things of God. [I sick writing God's name with this stench.]

The Lakeland crowd and it's devotee's are now numbered with the upper echelon of the Charismatic Apostles and prophets, and a sanitary project is underway to scrub away the minor inconsistencies of Bentley's more nefarious revelations. Plainly put, they are characterizing this imp imitator as mainstream...just one of the prophetic boys who found God in a deeper way.

There is more at stake now, than just Todd. Scores of the Professional crowd have now uncovered their skirts to him, and now must ride on his coat tails to victory or defeat. In short, if he goes down, they only inherit guilt by endorsement, and they go down.

So, I believe a cover up of sorts in in the gears. In this sense Jon, I agree with you totally. This will work for good for those who love God, and are called according to His purpose; To lift up the Name of Jesus, and bring the kingdom of Heaven unto the oppressed and poor, THROUGH THE PREACHING OF THE CROSS, REPENTENCE FROM OUTWARD AND INWARD "DEATH WORKS, AND FAITH TOWARD GOD!

All of the points you have trumpeted in your article are right on, and you will find them in print here, somewhere on the previous posts about Lakeland. You laid them out very orderly, and easily entreated within your insights. Thanks,,,,Tom.
