Plastic Christians

sermonindex Jul 25, 2008

It seems that alot of christians (respectively) have a hard time being real. Atleast this has been my experience. I don't know what's to blame for this except for a religious spirit maybe? The reason I use the term plastic is because there is something in them it seems that is artificial. It's not really every christian I run into but maybe every other. They do not know how to have open dialogue. Alot of it is maybe jealousy, envy, pride or arrogance I'm not sure. Anyway, I really don't seem to have any problems discussing the bible with unbelievers as much as professing christians. It's really strange and hard to explain.

There seems to be a deeper hunger for truth and fellowship with the unbeliever more than alot of professing believers. Has anyone else experienced this?

My only explanation for this may be that the need to compete has taken precedence over anything else.

Anyhow, thankfully I met this woman yesterday and there was none of that. She was a christian and very authentic. How refreshing that was! :-)

Genuine, sincere Christians are few and far
between. Why?? Mostly because they fail to
understand a life of faith is a relationship
and walk with the Father and Son!! They are
so busy with methods, programs and other
diversions they miss the real deal: a personal
relationship with a living Savior!!

love all, even the unlovable.

pray to love more, even the unlovable.

love hard, love all, I believe with my whole heart and soul that the more we love, the brighter that Light shines, the Light of Christ, the better we reflect Him, and Christ was most authentic, than we are authentic.

He liked barbeque fish on the beach, what was it, at the end of Luke?

Christ loved all, so to be like Christ, we love all, impossible as that sounds, and it sure is hard, trapped in these clay jars.

Rivqah, I know what you are talking about. In my former church I could only find 1 or 2 out of 100 with whom I could share my life in Christ. The others were merely interested in some activities, social gatherings, charity events etc. I felt quite lonely and alienated from the rest. Now I have found some more, but still they are far and few in between.

I had a genuine salvation 23 years ago but then went into a type of babylonic captivity whilst going to most prayer meetings and being a house group leader who loved bible studies. I was a plastic Christian with little substance behind my religeous talk. My personal benefit was the reason I followed Christ deep in my heart.

During a time of suffering the crucified and resurrected Christ has been revealed to me, this IS the greatest privellege a mortal man can encounter on earth. This gives us an obligaton to share with those from the "multitudes" that surrounded Jesus but never fully embraced him. They were offended when it came to drinking his blood and eating his flesh. Yet there may be some among them whose eyes will be openend and they will become deciples and ultimately sons of God. Many are called, few are chosen.

Many of my former aquaintances and Christian friends no longer understand me.

The problem is there doesn’t seem to be that hunger for truth alone. If there is there is that plus something else and the plus something else gets in the way of everything else. You can’t serve two masters and you cannot have any real fellowship with another professing believer who serves two masters. Most of the real christains I have found are on this forum but this woman was actually standing in my living room.

We had a conversation about some of the same things we discuss here. She was in shock just as much as I was. It was like finding your long lost best friend. She is from Illinois, and she hasn’t been able to find a church like the one they had to leave. They also seem to have alot of money and we’re more middle income but you would never know it talking to her. She's not proud at all. She drives a really nice car and lives in a rich neighborhood but you could tell she only had one master.
