Questions about the ‘Puritan Paperbacks’ series of books

Just wondering…could anyone tell me a little bit about the ‘Puritan Paperbacks’ series of books? I recently noticed that the entire 38 book series could be purchased for $209.95, [url=http://www.solid-ground-books.com/books_PuritanClassicsInPaperback.asp]here[/url]
and while I may not opt to get them all, I am extremely interested in quite a few of them.

But before buying so many, I was wondering:

Are they abridgements?

If so, would you still recommend them?

How is the quality? I know they are paperbacks, but there are degrees of quality on these as well.

Any and all info is greatly appreciated. Tell about your favorites if you like.

I think that Flavel, Owen, Buynan, Burroughs and Brooks are "must" read, just extraordinary !!

I ordered another copy of Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment, published by Sovereign Grace Publishers, but I prefer the ones published by Banner of Truth Trust.

Im sure brother Paul West would (edit) be able to share a whole lot more on this.

Definitely money well spent, pass them on to your children..even better. My daughter is reading them now.

TJ. Please if you get a chance pick them up. I have started to purchase them one by one. My first book was by ralph venning called the sinfulness of sin. the orignal title of the book was called sin: the plague of plagues. My next purchase will be Owens Mortification of Sin and I cannot wait to read it. So do yourself a favor and pick them up. I do think that most are abridged versions. Be blessed dear brother

I am a big fan of the Puritan Paperbacks. Banner always does a great job with them.

Some of the longer and more prolix books are thoughtfully abridged or lightly modernized (never in noticeable ways), but their original-version counterparts are also available. Most of the books, so far as I know, are almost unchanged.

Binding and print quality are the best I've found in any paperbacks. They withstand multiple readings, highlighting and note taking.

Monergism.com offers the whole series in their book store and allows you a place to read reviews and information about them.

I would also highly reccommend them, I have a few by John Bunyan and they are a great little series of books. :-)

They are abridged, but they are usually edited by credible scholars and they edit them so that they are more easily readable, as opposed to the original 17th century editions.

I have several used copies in good readable condition for sale. Just send me a PM if you're interested.

I have around a dozen of them.

I do not think they are all abridged. The only one that comes to mind that says it is abridged is John Owen's "Moritification of Sin". But, you may want to research this more... either way, I didn't feel like I was missing anything!

I have marked up and highlighted all over The Godly Man's Picture and it is still holding up fine.
