Best Ephesians Commentary? Advice

B

Some friends and I are starting a new bible study and going to make the book of Ephesians the topic of study. My friend who is mainly leading it is using an Obrien commentary. I was wondering what commentary you all would recommend. I trust that most of you would have an idea which would be best. I know most people on this site have strong conviction with respect to how we live out the Christian life in holiness, and wanted your recommendations on a commentary that is not anything close to liberal. During our first study today which was kind of an intro, it was quoted that this book was Calvin's favorite so maybe a commentary by him would be good. Anyway, all recommendations are appreciated except liberal ones. lol. Thanks.

Warren Wiersbe wrote an excellent commentary
on Ephesians titled: Be Mature.

I believe the O'Brien commentary you mentioned is supposed to be a very good commentary on Ephesians.

Calvin's commentaries are also very good, as well as John Gill and Matthew Henry.

You could maybe stick with the O'Brien and reference some of the older ones online since they are all available for free online reading.

Well, i just bought a Hendriksen commentary. Seems like it should be good. Anyone familiar with it. The guy and the book store recommended it. I looked a little through it and seems legit. Definitely not liberal. There is even a quote on the back of the book about the book not being liberal. Lol. Just what i was looking for.

Exposition of Ephesians (8 vol set) by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Excellent. Helped me tremendously, still refer to them from time to time. The doctor (ex-physician) had truly a gift in his analytical skill of the 20-century Christians' ins and outs. Easy to read but insightful as well.
