Please pray for the people that will be affected by this hurricane. The storm surge is going to flood coastal cities to the east of the eye of this hurricane. There are people that have refused to evacuate and their lives are in danger. I live in Southwest La. and we will be affected by this storm and many people have evacuated. Your prayers are greatly appreciated.

My prayers are certainly w/you and everyone along the Gulf Coast. Even tho us "inlanders" are not in any physical danger... it was very difficult to find any gas stations around here that had gas. The ones that did have boosted the price from $3.59 to $4.25 overnight... and the dang hurricane hasnt even made landfall yet!

I believe they go up on the gas because they can.
Ours jumped from $3.66 to $3.95 over night, and we live in Ga.

I read where some stations in Kentucky are charging over $6 a gallon... and are fixing to get into a lot of trouble with the government for price gouging.

Yeah, that's what they're saying for all of us in IN, too. It's still only $3.89 here, but WOWO said by night it should be around $6.

Thank you very much for your prayers. It looks like the hurricane is going into Galveston in the early morning hours. This is a very large storm that is covering much of the Gulf.
Sharon (my wife) has evacuated with her sister to Kinder La. I am at the refinery, and we are going to attempt to keep things running. Of course what is really going to be the test is when the heavy rains come through the area, and it is very possible that we could have a power failure. That is what happened to the big Exxon refinery in Baton Rouge when Hurricane Gustav hit. They had a total power failure.
This hurricane is not going to help the price of gas because there are many oil rigs that had to be shut down for this hurricane. There are also many refineries in the Houston area that have shut down already.
Three years ago hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, and you all know the devastation that caused. Several weeks after Katrina hit, Hurricane Rita hit the Texas La. border at Sabine Pass. This hurricane had much the same affect in the Lake Charles and surrounding area that Gustav had in Baton Rouge. There were many small tornadoes that were spawned by Rita that brought huge trees down over many homes in the area.

Water pushed ashore by the approaching Hurricane Ike has already flooded neighborhoods in Galveston, Texas. In nearby Houston, some 200,000 have fled ahead of the hurricane. Ike's storm surge could reach a deadly 22 feet, forecasters said. The center should make landfall early Saturday. developing story..
We haven't had anything hit us up in Iowa yet... :-)
But i am sure praying for you all down there... Might bring up some good conversations about Noah's flood and salvation through THE ark, eh?

STAY INSIDE WHILE THE WIND IS BLOWING HARD! Three years ago when Katrina was blowing through here we had a man in our town get killed because he was outside, standing under a tree when the wind knocked a limb off and sent it crashing to the place he was standing, killing him instantly. AND STAY OFF THE ROAD! for the same reasons. Those winds pick up projectiles and you could get hit!

Pray for Our City
Please pray for us as our hometown, Houston, TX is pounded by Hurricane Ike. Although this is one of the unpleasant realities of living in on the Gulf coast, it is still a horrifying event. One of the most terrible forces known to man is pounding our city (and utterly destroying our sister city, Galveston) and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do. No matter how sophisticated man becomes; no matter how advanced our technology, we will never be able to stay the hand of God when he sends his mighty wind. May it remind us how powerful and terrible our God is and bring us to repentance and faith as we recognize the fact that we, along with the rest of sinful humanity, deserve (and could receive) far worse.
