I have been reading the Outobiography of Amy Carmichael, and it has been just such a pleasure and blessing.
I would like to share some interesting things that is written in the book that meant so much to me.
"The Christian Church in Banalore was very active. Active in the sense that the Christians attended Church, recieved the sacrements and paid their dues. Iandians love meetings. Meetings of any kind. They oblingley flocked to meetings that lasted for hours, then returned home- unchanged. The fact that there had not been one convert in a year's time did not seem to bother the Christians. It bother Amy. Depression like a black hand, dragged her down. But worst of all as she described it 'the temptation to ambition- then the spiritual perishes.'
{I truly believe that this is the state of the Church today as wel.)
"After amny years she (Amy) realized that one must expect to be misjudged - Christ was."
"Onward Christian Soldiers
sitting on the mats
Nice and warm and cozy
like little pussycats
Onward Christian soldiers
Oh how brave are we
don't we do our fighting
very comfortably?"
"The secret of going on is to get away."
"Amy's goal was to train good soldiers for Jesus Christ. Academic accomplishments being secondary."
{Amy wrote a letter to all the churches nearby, and this is what she wrote.}
"Do you know of any women who will help us, for love of God living by faith?" {They replied with this:} "No such women exist anywhere in the church."
{That was shocking for me... but that still is the truth is most churches today.. Oh, if that letter could have been sent a few years later.. }
"It was easier for them to have faith, than to worry."
"Diamonds that reflect the most light have recieved the roughest treatment. Every flaw must be cut out, even a microscopic flaw."
{Oh, how that hurts so much dear Lord, but it is so necessary.}
"Faith never wonders why."
"Prayer throws light on the problem of pointless pain."
I have such a burning passion for children, and so did Amy. That is why I am so greatful for this book. The Lord has blessed me in abundance while reading it.
All the glory to Him....
