Open-Air Prayer in the City

K
KingJimmy Sep 30, 2008

Please pray for me. Tomorrow during my lunch hour 11:30-12:30, I plan on starting an open-air prayer meeting in the heart of uptown Charlotte. I am going to invite others to pray for our nation during the troubling times we are going through. I'm simply going to write on a small sign "Prayer Meeting" in big bold letters, tape it to a tree/light post, invite people to pray, and of course... pray!

I hope to have continuous meetings as long as the Lord wills.

Yes Jimmy,

I will be praying tonight and tomorrow for your mission.

I am praying even now and will tomorrow as well that the God who stirred your heart to want to do this will anoint and empower you tomorrow and grant you great boldness to carry out this calling.

Even if no one joins you tomorrow in prayer, pray anyway and the God of heaven who sees your heart will put that to your account.

I pray that He will give you the singleness of mind to keep that appointment day after day and that He will stir the heart of others to join you in this worthy work.

If I lived in your area, it's for sure that I would be there praying with you.

God speed dear brother.

What a wonderful thing to do - on this day, and at this hour. There is much fear in the hearts of the people. Even if they do not join you, it will serve to remind them where to turn - for our hope is to be found in Him, and Him alone.

My prayers are with you.

How did this go yesterday? I am just east of Charlotte. Please post if you are going to do this again. I would like to come if the Lord allows.

God bless your obedience.

Sorry for the delayed response, thank you all for your prayers.

Well, I went out as planned. The Lord provided a very beautiful day. I started off by posting a sign on a tree above my head "prayer meeting for our nation 11:30-12:30," then I made an open-air appeal for a few minutes for anybody who was so willing, to join me for a few moments of prayer. I was right outside of the Bank of America corporate office, underneath the flag poles on N. Tryon Street in Charlotte. I even specifically made an appeal to Christian mean, if there were any there, to come and pray with me.

I didn't really get a response. I talked for a few minutes to those immediately around me, and invited them to pray. Finally, after not seeing enthusiasm from them about it, I just went ahead and started praying myself. At first I prayed out loud, but eventually, I just decided to be quiet in my praying, and spent about 30 minutes just quietly praying.

Then I felt led to open my eyes, and I immediately asked the first person walking by me if they would pray with me. To my surprise, they agreed to do such, and we commenced to praying together for about 15 minutes. They didn't seem accustomed to praying out loud, so, it seems like after a minute or so they just would give an affirmative "amen" from time to time. After a while, they were just quiet and seemed to stand there listening to me fervently pray. Then, when I finally stopped, they just nodded their head and walked away.

I don't know how often the Lord will lead me to do such. For all I know, perhaps such was just a once-in-a-time thing. That I do not know. I will remain sensitive to his leading to do this in the future. I hope to do it again. But, perhaps it seems the Lord had me to do such once for whatever purpose He chose.

During the week of October 12th, I plan on going to the campus of UNC Charlotte to do some open-air preaching. What I did this week regarding the open-air prayer meeting really lit a fire in my inward man. It was the fist time in nearly 2 years that I had done any open-air preaching. I can't wait to do it again, as the Lord leads and wills.

If anybody would like to join me at UNC Charlotte that week, let me know. I hope to go there at least 2 or 3 times during that week to minister.

Many blessings.
