I have been thinking of this verse, especially wearing out the saints as the last thing that the devil wants us to do is read our bible and pray!

This concept troubles me because I find myself getting weary. Jesus warns us about this very thing in Matthew 24: 12: "because iniquity abounds the love of many shall wax cold."
Really, I get weary when I see iniquity abounding among Believers, sins that in the OT earned the death penalty are now occurring with surprising frequency. People are not ashamed....It is as though one is fighting a losing battle.
When we were youth, we were also tempted and but we were scared to death of the consequences and refused to give in. But today, there is no shame because moderns' concept of forgiveness leaves no room for shame but acceptance. So, what do we have? Sin running wild and the youth are defiled...
Shame, ah ....the value of shame! Many years ago I read in the Memphis' "The Commercial Appeal" an article written by a secular writer about shame. He said its loss is giving rise to behaviours that formally were frowned upon because there is no shame. Now Christians would be more picky and declare it is because there has been a loss of the fear of God that they act like their father, the devil. And this is right. However, some sins have far more harmful consequences then others, even after forgiveness is sought and acquired. There are loss of innocence, STD's, babies, - and they will live on. Thievery can be forgiven, restitution made, but not so with immorality: one can never regain your innocence after it has been freely given to another in an uncovenant relationship.
Yes, I get weary...and the only remedy is to keep close to the LORD and in the process one develops a keener sense of the awfulness of sin and so the battle remains.
