I am so sad

Tuesday I attended the going away party of the director of our local senior center director in a very small southern town who was fired by the mayor because she interjected the name of Jesus to often in the center.

All our members and friends black and white all elderly, poor and the blind gathered in a large Baptist Church fellowship hall and were led in hymns and prayer by a Presbyterian minster and ate a great lunch that was cooked and served by the Baptist pastor and his wife and their two young daughters. Elderly members filled trays of the bounty to be delivered to our home bound friends.

We had a range of guest who represented The V. F. W. , The Council On Ageing, director of our local volunteer services, Hospice, Head Start and Community Action , two newly elected city councilmen.

Old friends and new friend came to make donations or say good by to their friend and ours, June Jones.

I did not intentionally try to mislead you Krispy, fired was not the word that was used.
Replaced was the way it was presented.
Fired is more descriptive of what happened in my opinion based on years of observation as it unfolded.

June had to reapply for the directors job to become a city employee and was not picked.

The way it happened was that the old mayor did not seek reelection and will leave office on the fifteenth of this month. We meet in a city building and were funded by several different U.S, State, and City agencies.

We have no amenities to speak of, no fire extinguishers or padded chairs or proper lighting, bathroom facilities or anything you would normally expect to be present for the elderly.

The volunteers deliver home bound meals, donate the weekly bingo game prizes, drive the bus, and assist the director in her duties of attending the needs of the elderly.

The city will take over the day to day operation of the facility and the U. S. Government agency will no longer be the administers of the program so their staff had to leave Tuesday of this week.

A lady from the incoming mayors administrations was present yesterday morning and remained with us all day.

I believe our physical needs and our spiritual ones will be met in proper balance and our great wealth of love and respect for our Lord and Savior and brothers and sisters will continue without any reduction in intensity or strength.

The old mayor may have legal cover but she has allowed the conditions at a center of unbiased love to suffer needlessly under her administration.

The lame duck city administration advertized for an new center administrator and hired a new one.

We volunteers are the staff she will have until they leave office on the 15th except her new friend who showed up the day after her dismissal in a very Christian like spirit and began the work of training the new director with out earthly reward, our old friend June Jones.

You made a good point Krispy . June is a Seven Day Adventist and I don’t know how they view
suing another person in court.

All the meetings June had with the mayor were held privately at city hall and were not discussed at the center with the exception of the last one were June reported that the mayor said to her that she was to religious to work in city government and could not stop using the name of God and Jesus in the center even though she had been instructed to.
