Just wondering.
Just wondering.
All Christian's here. I'm just a lowly-housewife and my mission field is where the Lord leads my feet:
Grocery store,
Post office,
Dry cleaners,
the gym,
the water store etc.
There are people who have been here when they had internet access, and time, who drop in occasionally as they are able, who would call themselves 'missionaries'.
Depends how you define 'missionary'.
Alive-to-God.
Yeah I hear you these day's the so called Church is re-defining everything to appear user-friendly to the world while twisting God's Word all over the place.

Connie, I love your reply.
Too many times we think a person is a missionary when he/she leaves his home country for a foreign one. And that may be right. But not all are called to leave: most are called to stay home and do mundane work day after day: like go to the job so the wife can stay home and tend to the family. This is not glamorous at all nor does it earn one much recognition from the church - unless it is money they are after and want yours! But what you can do is reflect the joy of the LORD in you routine work, work that can get boring. This alone is a powerful witness. If Christianity does not impact one where life meets the road, it is nothing! So then, God needs people who are willing to be faithful in the mundane, the routine to demonstrate how the Gospel impacts life - right where the rubber meets the road. Christianity is not some high flown philosophy men sit around to discuss, argue over: it is a way of life - all the time.

Do you mean missionary or emissary?
Or perhaps - apostle?
If by missionaries, you mean people who vocationally fulfill the Great Comission in regions foreign to their upbringing, then yes, here are a number who stop in. Eli_Brayley and Josef_Urban come to mind.
I have the call and my church, Transformed Life Fellowship is hoping to send me out as their 1st missionary, however all is in God's timing. Literally one month before heading out on an initial trip [3 1/2 weeks before Easter, 2009] I apparently crushed my foot and, Praise God, I walked again for the 1st time since then just this past week! Will begin planning anew very shortly!
However, reading ahead to Spurgeon's evening devotional for today, my favorite author had interesting things to say on this very subject!

Some persons have the foolish notion that the only way in which they can live for God is by becoming ministers, missionaries, or Bible women. Alas! how many would be shut out from any opportunity of magnifying the Most High if this were the case. Beloved, it is not office, it is earnestness; it is not position, it is grace which will enable us to glorify God. God is most surely glorified in that cobbler’s stall, where the godly worker, as he plies the awl, sings of the Saviour’s love, aye, glorified far more than in many a prebendal stall where official religiousness performs its scanty duties. The name of Jesus is glorified by the poor unlearned carter as he drives his horse, and blesses his God, or speaks to his fellow labourer by the roadside, as much as by the popular divine who, throughout the country, like Boanerges, is thundering out the gospel. God is glorified by our serving him in our proper vocations. Take care, dear reader, that you do not forsake the path of duty by leaving your occupation, and take care you do not dishonour your profession while in it. Think little of yourselves, but do not think too little of your callings. Every lawful trade may be sanctified by the gospel to noblest ends. Turn to the Bible, and you will find the most menial forms of labour connected either with most daring deeds of faith, or with persons whose lives have been illustrious for holiness. Therefore be not discontented with your calling. Whatever God has made your position, or your work, abide in that, unless you are quite sure that he calls you to something else. When I think of the missionary, I think of the burning heart and absolute commitment of men and women like George Whitefield, David Brainard, Gladys Aylward, Hudson Taylor, John Wesley and William Carey. I am left dwarfed and humbled, and how could you mention my name in the same breath? Committed unto death, and joyful to the end. Many were buried among their converts.
I also think of Jesus' commitment to the one, the singular, be he a tax collector, prostitute, or a leper. I think of the commission to be a "SENT ONE", as Paul. He was on a mission ordained by the Holy Spirit, buttressed by the authority of Jesus alone...."Go ye into all the Earth!"....to act upon his command and Holy word. But as our brother Spurgeon has counseled us; we all are asigned a mission to be a witness, and to bear fruit where we are planted, and often our mission is to love the weak, or our husband or wife, and as I see mine, to be a good brother, and a good son to the Father.
Often too, the Lord will set us down,put us on the shelf, until His inward purposes are done, like Moses in his 40 year humbling, or Elijah at Cherith just watching for the birds to fly by, alone.
In the end, we are all called to some form of mission or another. It is requires with any fulfillment of commission, however, that a person be faithful. Consider the widows mite, and who, I ask you, exactly IS the least of the brethren? Can they have a mission too?
A mission by definition is to fulfill a commission, and I think specifically, as you probably meant[ original poster ] in a geographical sense, in an Apostolic manner, adhering to the doctrine of the Apostles, either through evangelism, teaching and preaching to the lost, and those ignorant of the Graces of Jesus, usually typified as traveling to foreign lands. This is good, as long as you are anointed by God to bring forth holy fruit.
I have traveled some to the far east, in India, China, and Israel preaching and teaching some, and praying for the sick, encouraging the Church, etc. I am not, a missionary, but Oh, do I want to be!
