Simple and yet brings the reader deeper into God's truth that pierces the heart. It is amazing how a short statement or a line can change our perspective to line it up to God's. Many times I've had to ask, "is it I?"This is a must-read, I'd say.

If I ever pastor a church, this book will be required reading (with a test at the end) for all new members.I also believe potential pastors should be required by all churches and seminaries to memorize it from cover to cover.A simply amazing study in authority and dissent in the church. Edwards uses the speculative, fictional aspects to flesh out spiritual principles regarding leadership and authority. In this case, it is extremely powerful and effective.In most cases, I prefer a more straighforward exegesis of Scripture. But Edwards is so masterful in his use of speculative fiction...nobody does it quite like him. His goal isn't to entertain you, but to use fiction to ILLUSTRATE some very powerful insights and truths. He uses a speculative backdrop based on real events to show you what it might look like in real life. And, man, does it work.It is a small book -- you could read it in one or two sessions. It's been a while since I've read this book, but I did find it to be quite amazing. Though I know more about Gene Edwards and him being an "apostle" in the house church movement, and don't really care for some other things he has said, I do love this book. I'll never forget about how in this book when David's authority was challenged by Absalom, David essentially just did nothing but leave it in the hands of God. That is quite the opposite attitude you would have today in the Church should a pastor-king be challenged. You would instead be squished.
