We are tempted when we are drawn away from all the good God has for us. Whether it is the disire to follow after a lustful thought, or to make a name for ourself in ministry; both suggest that something other than God can satisfy us.
John Eldredge writes, 'there is no greater tradgedy for the human heart than to believe we have found life apart from God'.
CS Lewis uses the analogy of an owner walking his dog. The dog will often choose the wrong side of the light pole and get hung up by the leash. Both want to go forward, but until the dog comes to the right side of the pole, he can't.
How often do we find ourselves on the wrong side of the pole? How quickly do we yeild to God's pull?
As long as we are tempted to think that something other than God can satisfy us, we will pull against Him. He is not pulling to hold us back, He is pulling us back that we might go forward.
John 4:13,14
Jesus answered,'Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
John 17:3
Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
