Need some advice

M
MaryJane Nov 10, 2008

Greetings

I could use some advice. My sister professes to be christian but she is also a hypercondreact.(not sure about spelling?) Every time I talk to her she is always just about to die. If she has a small cold its going to kill her because of all these other health problems she is convinced that she has. I have tried to talk to her about this but she sees herself as a victim. I have tried to encourage her to take her focus off of herself and spend time in prayer for others but she still goes back to how sick she is. I am not sure how to deal with her any longer. I have prayed for her and shared with her but she just still will not hear.

Any one have any scriptures or thoughts about this or how to deal with someone like this.

God Bless
MJ

This is one of the first scriptures that come to mind. I hope this may be a blessing for you and your sister.

Philippians 1:19-21 (NKJV)

For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

My first question to her would be... what are you so afraid of? Dying and going to glory where there is no sickness, tears, heartache?

That may sound flippant, but it may cause her to think a little.

I'm not one to send someone off to a shrink. However, she does need counseling and should seek out her pastor or an elder in the church. The answer for her lies in the Word of God, but she needs to connect with someone who knows exactly how to use the Word of God to root out this fear she has.

Also this "disorder" is often not only rooted in fear, but in a deep desire to be noticed by others... "oh poor me, I'm so sick... everyone have pity on me." This needs to be dealt with too.

Nothing wrong with good godly counsel, and if you feel unable to provide her with that yourself then I highly recommend a pastor or elder, or an older spiritually seasoned woman.

A lot of what is troubling her is that she lives
on the corner of Self and Pity. This is her
perception and becomes her reality. Pray that
God would reveal the depths of His infinite
mercy to her and show her the reality of our
Living Saviour!!

Thank you everyone for your replies...sadly she attends a very seeker sensitive church that feeds into her behavior. She tells me she goes for councilor with her pastor, they give her all kinds of attention, in this case it only makes things worse. I have tried to share with her on more then one occasion about this. She tells me that her illness brings on deep depression and that she has to take all these different medicines just to stay alive. Truthfully I am not as patient as I should be with her, it is sin on my part and something I really need to seek Father on. There are times when she calls me now when I just don't even want to answer the phone because she will not listen and I get so frustrated with trying to share with her.
I know one of the reasons she does this is to get attention and to manipulate people around her and part of me is beginning to think that even by listening and talking to her I am feeding into this sin in her life. Am beginning to think I need to drastically limit my contact with her until she is willing to see things as they really are...
Anyway thanks for letting me share here, and I would be most grateful for prayer to know Fathers heart on this.

God Bless

All I can offer is to keep praying and just be honest. This situation sounds a lot like mine with my sister, except I was the one in your sisters place. I praise the Lord for giving me a sister who was willing to tell me the Truth at any cost. She was patient and loving all the while letting me know that I was living in sin and that I had to change and give my life over to Christ. Even after becoming a Christian I struggled with some of what you shared but through prayer, reading the Word and talking with my sister and brother-in-law, God has granted me victory over many of those issues.

May the Lord use you in your sisters life the same way He used mine in my life. God bless you both! =0)

Mary Jane,

The Lord will show you how to handle this situation with your sister.

"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and upbraides not; and it shall be given him." (James 1:5).

Hello Mary Jane,

AbideinHim gives excellent counseling. Put it in His hands and just love your sister.

Encourage her to flee from that seeker church and get herself grounded in the Bible. It is obvious they are not feeding her.

Until she comes to Jesus and gives Him control of her life she will be unable to change. (Without Him, I could do nothing) Pity her and do your best not to let her 'acting out' draw you into any discussions.

I will pray for both of you.

Kind regards,
white stone
