Was the US really founded by and established on Christianity?

Claims like many of our President's were very devout Christians. Or, God lead Columbus over here by a prophetic word from the Scriptures. Or, our Constitution was based on Biblical principles. Or, We were supposed to be a Christian nation and not have the 2 be seperated, and so forth. I have heard this from many places especially Wallbuilder's. I have also heard that many were of a secret cult society called the Mason's. Or I have heard that Columbus was just a criminal and warmonger. Or that they were just false converts.

One of the books that comes to mind is, "The light and the Glory". I think it is still in print. That should help set you on the right path. Also you can read the writtings of the early church leaders in the American colonies, the purtains as they have been called, that also is very telling.

Maybe you could help us with something. What is the purpose of this thread in light of the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ? Jesus said that we are to go into all the world and make disciples.

Brother this subject has been brought up a lot and if you will do a search you will find a lot of info. on SI. I hope you are not against what God has done in America. I hope you are not blind to the Christian influence of the founding fathers. I hope you also realize that the true church is not of this world. I hope you also realize that Christianity was the main belief of America at one time and influence many decisions made by the goverment.

I also know that many anti-christian people in America are trying to get Christianity completely out of American society. They use the same arguments that you started in this thread. Maybe I just don’t understand why Christians who really love God would even want to be divisive in light of all the blessings of the grace, God has bestowed upon America because of Christianity.

Out of all honesty, not to be unfair to you, but everyone is entitled here to express how they feel about the issues of this nation, and unfortunately, it isn't very pleasing from the angle in which we now look at this country an it's myriad of woes...

Also, If this nation was formed under chritianity, than again, I say, "how Cheap is the word Christian".

Christianity on the backs of slaves and natives, I believe that is when much of this countries woes started, but America was founded and carried to this day by God's purposes.

But a founded Christian nation? HA! We as a people have been filled with sickness since the inception...

When it comes to great or grand moves of the spirit, i think that we can use one hand to count these occurences throughout America, America has shunned and toned out the voice of the true prophets to this nation, and guess what with our self-righteous tones, I still do not know if He is listening....

I say these things with care that we might pray and seek, and seek and pray until we really do get through until Christ truly shines His light through..... We are still in a hopelessly lost condition....

when we came over from europe their were unbelievers and believers, so corruption came here. I don't have a problem with your post, their is no reason for anyone to attack you about this at all.

It is good to study the history of America to see where we were spiritually in the beginning and just how far we have fallen.

Many of the men that framed the constitution were Christians, men of prayer, who believed that the Word of God was the final authority for decisions that they would make, and even the deists such as Thomas Jefferson still held to the principles of the bible.

You can look at the early influence of Christianity in the government, schools, and just about every aspect of life in America. Most of the early Supreme Court justices believed that the ten commandments were the basis for all law. The colleges such as Harvard and Yale were mainly established to train young men for the ministry.

The Great Awakenings in this country definetly had a positive impact on society, and now secular humanism has crept in and with it all kinds of ungodliness and perversion. There was a time when the preachers would have met this moral decay head on, but now to a large extent the pulpits have been silenced, because many pastors care more about building big churches and not offending people than the glory and honor of God.

We cannot look at the present condition of our country and let that be the cause of why we doubt our country's past/history.

As it was already stated:

You have to go back to original sources... you can not depend on history books written today, even Christian books.

In the original source material it can not be denied that the influence of Christianity was great and strong.
